November Social
is Movie Time!

Watch for upcoming information.

We enjoyed our October chapter social, a tour of McAllister House & Museum on Cascade Ave.  This cool view of Pikes Peak is from the 2nd floor of the home.   We learned a lot about the early history of Colorado Springs. One interesting fact - this home burned coal in the fireplaces, not wood. Trees were about nonexistent in town in those early days.

After the tour, we had a tasty lunch a block away, at Panino's.   - Pauline

Medicare and Hearing Aid Coverage -
"Seniors Have Eyes, Ears and Teeth Act"

HLAA is in the early stages of our strategy to get hearing aids and services covered by Medicare.    HLAA staff met with the staffs of two House commi ttees of jurisdiction in April to discuss their plans for considering these bills and how HLAA can be most helpful. While the issue of Medicare coverage is very much on the radar of both committees, neither appears ready to begin crafting proposals or scheduling hearings.   While there may be some initial congressional activity on the issue late in 2019 or early in 2020, it is unlikely that serious consideration of Medicare policy will begin until after the 2020 election.

HLAA has also been having conversations with hearing health care and audiology professional organizations and academics about Medicare coverage. HLAA has also been reaching out to the broader Medicare community.   Read more about Medicare Legislation introduced in the 116 th  Congress here

Medicare Audiologist Access and Services Act of 2019 (H.R. 4056)

This legislation will enhance the Medicare benefit by providing beneficiaries critical direct access to both diagnostic and therapeutic services of audiologists.  Plans are to introduce a Senate companion bill.   Read more   here.
