Nurses and advanced practice providers play a pivotal role in improving global population health. CGN's Global Nursing Impact Series offers a platform to highlight their leadership and impact in advancing health equity and to promote collaboration on these initiatives. Each session will feature a 20-minute presentation by invited speakers, followed by a Q&A.*
The lecture series is held virtually on the second Tuesday of each month and starts promptly at 7:00 am - 7:30 am PST/4:00 pm - 4:30 pm CEST.
We are excited to announce that Bhawana Regmi, MSN, RN, Assistant Professor in Nursing at Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and ICU Nurse Manager at Dhulikel Hospital, will be presenting on critical care nursing in Nepal.

CGN Clinical Global Scholars Program
| |
|
The Global Nursing Scholars Program is designed for UCSF nurses and advanced practice providers enrolled in the CGN Global Nursing Certificate Program, offering a unique opportunity to gain international experience by collaborating with global partners to improve nursing care quality. Selected participants will engage in hands-on learning, problem-solving, and cross-cultural exchange in a healthcare setting abroad.
- The program will run concurrently with the CGN Global Nursing Certificate Program, from January 28 – April 15, 2025 (four 1.5-hour Zoom sessions).
- With an international experience in Kenya: April 21 – May 2, 2025.
- A stipend of up to $3,000 USD will be provided to cover travel, visa, lodging, and food expenses for each participant.
You must be a UCSF employee or student, and be registered for CGN's Certificate in Global Nursing Program to be eligible.

Over the course of 12 virtual sessions, the CGN Certificate in Global Nursing Program provides participants with an in-depth understanding of foundational concepts in global health sciences, including global nursing practice, health systems, cultural humility, and equitable partnerships.
This certificate program is ideal for nurses and advanced practice providers (APPs) that are:
- Interested in exploring key concepts of global health sciences for professional development
- Exploring global health sciences as a potential career pathway
- Working in global health, but have not yet had the opportunity to obtain training in global health sciences
Upcoming Course Dates
- January 28th, 2025 - April 15th, 2025
- All courses are held online from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. PST/5 p.m. - 7 p.m. CEST.

2024 CGN Cultural Humility Course
Register now for our final 2024 class on November 5th!
We received great feedback from last year's participants and are excited to continue to offer our 3-hour introductory course on cultural humility for all UCSF nurses, APPs, and faculty. Cultural humility is the cornerstone of all global health work and our expertise on this topic is essential to optimize equitable partnerships and cross-cultural collaborations.
CGN members are required to take this course. Register using the link below if you have not already done so.
Our own UCSF nursing/APP faculty and staff are facilitating the course. Looking forward to seeing you there!
There is no cost for the course at this time. 3 CEUs will be provided.

Global Neurosurgical Nursing
Workforce Survey

CGN would like to share an opportunity to participate in a survey aiming to characterize the global neurosurgical nursing workforce with a specific focus on gaining an overview of the demographics, education, and clinical training available for nurses, along with the status of nursing practice including resources and equipment available.
If you work with patients before or after neurosurgery, we kindly ask that you take a few minutes to complete this survey. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Please consider sharing this survey with your nursing colleagues and encourage their participation.

GICS Wound Care Survey
Pediatric Wound Care Survey
The following survey is an attempt to find out how best nurses care for Pediatric Acute and Chronic Surgical Wounds in your countries. This survey is designed to collect evidence from nurses about wound care.
This survey is brief and should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
The results of this survey will be used to create evidence-based guidelines and recommendations that can be used by nurses around the world to improve wound care for children.
Your input is essential in making this happen, and I hope you will take the time to participate.
Your responses will be kept anonymous, and your participation is completely voluntary.
The results of this survey will be published on the website of the Global Initiative for Children's Surgery (GICS) and the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care (ISPWC). By participating in this survey, you will be helping to improve wound care for children everywhere.

Erin Brenner MSN, RNFA
Registered Nurse | UCSF Health
Erin is a critical care nurse with extensive experience caring for children with congenital heart defects both in the United States and in 18 pediatric cardiovascular operating rooms around the world. Erin has partnered with the International Children’s Heart Foundation and Gift of Life International over the course of her career. Her comprehensive skill set spans clinic settings, the operating room, post-anesthesia care, and cardiac critical care.
Erin earned her MSN in Nursing Education from Xavier University and is deeply committed to nursing education and development. She has worked with global partners to implement the World Health Organization's safe surgical standards in low- and middle-income countries worldwide, providing education to operating room nurses in over 23 countries.
At CGN, Erin is collaborating with a team of nurse leaders at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to develop and implement the country's first peri-operative nurse training program. The aim of this program is of this program is to provide access to surgical training for nursing in Sub-Saharan Africa and elevate the practice of perioperative nursing.

The Roving Community Health Initiative
Community Opportunity

|
The Roving Community Health Initiative is a team of UCSF clinicians (RN, NP, PA) who work alongside community organizations and volunteers to provide vaccinations, wound care, and harm reduction in San Francisco, primarily in the Tenderloin and South of Market. Most of the work is on "roving teams" serving our unhoused and marginally housed community members.
Shifts are paid but voluntary and on top of your regular position at UCSF. RCHI covers your time (including OT when applicable), so your home department is not charged.
You need manager approval to pick up shifts, and shifts should be fine with your home department schedule.
Regular opportunities are:
- Thursday and Saturday
- 11 am to 4:30 pm (5 hours paid after 30-minute break deducted)
The first hour of each shift includes prep and orientation for newcomers. Clinicians go out in pairs to work together and support each other. Newcomers are paired with somebody with experience.

UCSF's Maternal and Childhood TB Initiative aims to advance research, education, and clinical care for TB in pregnancy and childhood. This initiative provides UCSF investigators, their teams, and global partners with resources including research on maternal and childhood TB, education and mentorship programs, clinical conferences, and public health resources.
