OUR HOUSE Volunteer Group Leader Testimonials

"I volunteered at the Night For Hope this year and it was a special and rewarding experience. To see the mix of grief and comedy helped me understand the service OUR HOUSE provides. I will stay involved with OUR HOUSE in as many ways as I can. "

Grief Support Group Testimonials

"When my dad died I had no idea what to do. I felt alone and unsure of how to move forward with my biggest plans in life without him. OUR HOUSE changed my life. My support group helped me understand happy times were still to come and I could honor my dad during them. Thank you, OUR HOUSE."
- Lindsay, 20
"I don't have enough words for what OUR HOUSE has done for me. At the most difficult time in my life, OUR HOUSE provided me with hope. My daughter dying left me overwhelmed with grief. Without the help of my group leaders and members, I don't know where I would be. OUR HOUSE kept me going."
- Michael, 43

Grief and the Holidays
Whether you are newly grieving, or remembering someone who died long ago, the holidays can bring about many unexpected emotions.

The w eeks leading up to the holidays are filled with visual cues and smells that can touch memories you thought were safely tucked away in your heart. Social media, television, and movies containing pictures and sound bites of families gathering together, may serve as constant reminders of what you will not have this year.   Click here to read more about grieving through the holidays.

8th Annual Night For Hope with Bob Saget and Melissa Rivers

On November 16th, over 300 attendees packed the Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles to spend the evening laughing through grief with their families and friends. The 8th annual Night For Hope kicked off the comedy night with comedians JC Coccoli, Becky Robinson, Melanie Maras, Adam Ray, and closed with Bob Saget. Bob was introduced to by OUR HOUSE Ambassador, Melissa Rivers.

The evening raised over $40,000 through donations and a silent auction. The Night For Hope is hosted by the OUR HOUSE Associate Board,  comprised of young professionals serving as ambassadors to the community. The Associate Board works relentlessly to spread the word about the agency's services and volunteer opportunities, in addition to raising funds.

J. William W orden,  PhD  at OUR HOUSE
We had a special treat this week when  J. William Worden, PhD co-author of the Harvard Child Bereavement Study and creator of The Four Tasks of Mourning, the most widely accepted grief model, joined the Open House at our West Los Angeles center to discuss his model and changes over the years. We appreciate his support and were thrilled to spend the morning with him.
