Volunteer-Built Micro Shelters for the Homeless
Presented by
Dave Gamrath
Tucson Tiny Home Coalition
Saturday, November 11, 3 p.m.
Room 203, Continental Shopping Plaza
| |
|
Homelessness has become a critical issue in many communities, including Tucson. Tiny homes for the unsheltered are being built in several communities throughout the country to help address the need for transitional housing for the homeless. Dave Gamrath will discuss the Tucson Tiny Home Coalition’s efforts to bring these micro shelters to Tucson and Pima County.
Dave is a longtime community activist. He and his wife, Shamah, split time between Green Valley and Seattle, where Dave spends summers building tiny homes (micro shelters) for the homeless with www.soundfoundationsnw.org.
Please join us to hear about this innovative approach to homelessness.
***The collection wagon will be available at this program for your donations of items for Casa Alitas.***

Thank you to all who donated cloth masks. We have enough now and are no longer accepting mask donations.
The dolls are given to children coming across the Mexican/US border daily. These children have few or no possessions. DOLLS FOR CHILDREN (DFC) will be distributed to them through Casa Alitas Welcome Centers in Nogales.
Many thanks to La Posada, Good Shepherd Church, and the First Congregational UCC Albuquerque NM for their generous donations of masks.
Special thanks to the doll making volunteers: Val Chiong, Joan Atkabowski, Evie Parker, Mary Rose Scott, Peggy McGaughey, and Naneki Elliot.

WE CARE Campaign in November:
Casa Alitas
| |
Casa Alitas is a welcoming shelter in Tucson for migrants legally in the US as they plan to join their sponsors. For November, we will be collecting some of the items they desperately need. Please bring your donations to the office or to one of our programs, and leave them in the blue wagon. Casa Alitas' budget for next year has been greatly reduced, so they need all the help they can get!
Items Needed:
- Underwear, NEW ONLY, for children and adults, all sizes but no large or XL for adults
- Socks for adults, new or gently used
- Children’s tee shirts (long sleeved are great), new or gently used
- Children’s pants, long, athletic or other, new or gently used
- Combs
- Hair ties for women or girls
Whatever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. GV Democrats have big hearts--this is one way we show it!
Bring your items to the wagon at Headquarters or to any program meeting.
Thank you!
Judy Knape, VP Headquarters
