November 2023 Newsletter

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

November is here! It seems like just a little bit ago we were talking about summer and now we have the start of the Holiday Season approaching us quickly. This month we are all eager to gather with family and friends and celebrate, whether you have a traditional Thanksgiving or a Friendsgiving, we all have plenty to be thankful for. Your Board of Directors is grateful for the support we have received from our community specially during tempestuous times. Your Board of Directors is still committed to continue to strive for doing our very best to protect the interests of our residents and find ways to better our community as a whole.

The Horseshoe Bay Property Owners’ Association has two

openings for the Board of Directors 2024 – 2027 term. Applications packets are available, starting November 1, 2023 through

December 1, 2023. Interested applicants can pick up packages from the HSBPOA office or find it online at HSBPOA.org. For more information you can contact the office at poa@hsbpoa.org. This is a great opportunity for all of our residents to consider getting involved in a very active POA board, so if you are willing to serve your community, are prepared to be transparent and willing to collaborate in a friendly and integrated manner please consider joining our Board of Directors.

Your HSBPOA welcomed fall with a fantastic Fall Fest and Chili Cook Off last month and it did not disappoint! Bringing the community together and community outreach is a very important task that your Board of Directors takes very seriously. We focus on getting our residents involved and engaged in our planned events which contribute to help keep our residents connected, bring economic benefit for local vendors and artisans and to build a strong community spirit.

This year’s Chili Cook-Off winners are:

First Place: C&J Chili Extraordinaires

Second Place: Hilly Chilly

Third Place: Cypress Chilly Heads

People’s Choice: Hilly Chilly

Congratulations to all and we look forward to our 2024 Fall Fest and Chili Cook-Off!

We are very grateful for your participation and encourage everyone to get involved by partaking in our events and attending our monthly Board Meetings.

This month’s Board of Directors Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00 AM at Quail Point Lodge.

FALL FEST AND CHILI COOK-OFF

Fall in Horseshoe Bay doesn’t always display a big change on the color of the foliage or crisp temperatures but we can all rely on an funtastic Fall Fest and Chili Cook-Off to celebrate the season!

This special event aspired to bring our community together and enjoy a festive afternoon at Quail Point Lodge featuring a friendly chili cook off, craft market, good food, craft beer, Texas wine and live music featuring The Ricky Adams Band.

Chili competitors prepared their best chili in hopes of being champion with a full year of bragging rights. Judges voted on the best chili entry for this year’s competition and chili lovers had the opportunity to taste all of the different delightful chili recipes and vote for the People’s Choice. Judges were all volunteers from the community, ready and eager to rank our winners for First, Second and Third Place.

This year, the HSB POA had some delicious chili samples to pass out to visitors. We had different styles of chili but all were delicious! A big thank you goes to Kirstie Howard from our office staff, Yuki Graves – Board Director, Debbie Beeman – volunteer, and Karen Calderon-Schweitzer – Board Director for bringing your delectable chili recipes to our event.

Researching and Finding the Best

by Whit Holcomb

"After researching some of the best places to live in the Texas Hill Country, Horseshoe Bay quickly came to the top of the list," says Jim Jorden. Jim and his wife, Shirley, have been property owners since the mid-80s and moved to HSB permanently in 1998.

Before moving to Horseshoe Bay, the Jordens lived in Houston, and Jim worked in the petroleum industry. Jim was interested in journalism and history during high school but then studied engineering in college.

Calling on his love of writing, Jim was invited to co-author two technical monographs, Well Logging I and Well Logging II. These writings became a standard reference, helpful to engineers practicing this specific art.

When moving here full-time and retiring, Jim returned to his passion for writing by researching and self-publishing two family histories. After this, he researched and published An Illustrated and Interpreted History of the Church at Horseshoe Bay in 2018, and then A History of The Conrad L. Fuchs Family and the Fuchs House in 2020. One year later, The Story of Horseshoe Bay, Texas was published, with Jim spearheading the book.

We proudly sell The Story of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and A History of the Conrad L. Fuchs Family and the Fuchs House in the POA office.

Jim and Shirley's accolades are too numerous to describe in this brief article. We feel fortunate to have Jim in our community, chronicling the past and participating in the future of Horseshoe Bay. Jim sums it up nicely, saying, "We love it here." We couldn't agree with this sentiment more.

Thank you, Jim, for all you've done for our community.
