We all do what we believe is right in our church. We have inherited activities and programs others started because that is what was in place when we walked in the door. We volunteer, get involved, and participate as best we can with our time. We find aspects of the church ministries that we can serve in, and there are ministries that we benefit from by participating. All this is well and good. 

Sometimes, the problem is not what we are doing but what we are not doing. There is always the problem: we all default to what we are comfortable with, and we tend to avoid those responsibilities that are more uncomfortable. Read More

Vision

I know a bit about the loss of vision. In 2018 I stopped at the local gas station to fill up my truck and myself. Walking out into the stiff breeze with a slushie in my hands, I went to open my truck door when the wind blew it back at me. My extra-long straw went straight across my eye, tearing what my optometrist called “a grand canyon” across my cornea. In her words, “I’ve seen worse corneal damage, but only in pictures in optometry school.” (This particular eye doctor had three children, two were delivered naturally at home, and she guaranteed me the pain I was experiencing from my corneal tear was worse than childbirth – a fact that my wife does not appreciate me bringing up as much as I enjoy pointing it out to her.)
