The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met at the Platte County Resource Center on November 17th.
Ashley Aune, State Representative for District 14 and Jamie Johnson, newly elected State Representative for District 12 made comments about growing interest in Platte County as an increasingly purple leaning area. Ashley has been elected Minority Whip and Jamie as Chair of Policy for the Democratic Caucus. Platte County will be well represented in Jefferson City!
Paula Willmarth reported from the State Committee that new leaders and chairs will be elected in December. Rita McGuire reported that the Women’s Club held an election celebration at Headquarters after the election and helped clear out the facility. She also announced the Contest Every Race event will take place on December 8 at 7:00 at the KCPD Northland Patrol building.
Chair Meredith Peace reported on plans for the March 12, 2023 Music and Mimosas fund raiser. She provided a cost benefit /analysis of The View vs The Argosy. The fact that the Argosy is in Platte County and union were the deciding factors. Meredith’s draft letter to Unions was presented and approved. Ken Hunt provided a report on activity from Constant Contact.
Tyler McCall recommended our participation in LEAD MO training sessions for new/ potential candidates beginning 11/29 through January. He affirmed the value of its outreach and involvement based on his own experience. Also discussed were candidate and cohort training offered by Moms in Action and Missouri House Democratic Campaign Caucus.
Suggestions for outreach in the coming year included: postcards asking neighbors to vote; Central Committee members to help find sign locations, sponsors and outreach in their own sub-districts; texting as outreach and putting precinct map on the web page.
The subject of Long Term Goals was raised by Chair Meredith Peace. She asked that anyone interested in investigating should contact her.
There will be no December meeting. The next meeting of the Platte County Democratic Central Committee will be on January 19th at the Platte County Resource Center at 7:00 p.m.
