Election Night Watch Party

The Platte County Democratic Central Committee with the Platte County Federated Women’s Democratic Club held an Election Night Watch Party at Platte County Democratic Election Headquarters on November 8th. An overflow crowd watched as returns rolled in and races were called in favor of Jamie Johnson to represent Missouri House District 12 and Ashley Aune to represent Missouri House District 14. Our thanks to our other candidates who worked hard to bring Democratic values to elected offices: John Defoor, Rebecca Nafzinger, Henry Martin and Sarah Shorter.

Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club

The Women’s Club sponsored an election celebration at the November 9th meeting at Election Headquarters. Our newly elected representatives were unable to attend because they were in Jefferson City at a meeting to elect the new Missouri House Democratic Leadership Team for the 102nd General Assembly. Ashley Aune was elected as the Minority Whip and Jamie Johnson was elected as Caucus Policy Chair. The December 12 meeting of the Women’s Club will feature Kansas City Missouri City Council candidates. We will discuss what "at Large" means to Platte County KCMO residents. Candidates will include: Lindsay French - 2nd District at large; Michael Kelley - 5th District at large; Darron Story - 3rd District at large; and Chris Gahagan - 1st District.

Platte Country Democratic Central Committee

The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met at the Platte County Resource Center on November 17th. Ashley Aune, State Representative for District 14 and Jamie Johnson, newly elected State Representative for District 12 made comments about growing interest in Platte County as an increasingly purple leaning area. Ashley has been elected Minority Whip and Jamie as Chair of Policy for the Democratic Caucus. Platte County will be well represented in Jefferson City! Paula Willmarth reported from the State Committee that new leaders and chairs will be elected in December. Rita McGuire reported that the Women’s Club held an election celebration at Headquarters after the election and helped clear out the facility. She also announced the Contest Every Race event will take place on December 8 at 7:00 at the KCPD Northland Patrol building. Chair Meredith Peace reported on plans for the March 12, 2023 Music and Mimosas fund raiser. She provided a cost benefit /analysis of The View vs The Argosy. The fact that the Argosy is in Platte County and union were the deciding factors. Meredith’s draft letter to Unions was presented and approved. Ken Hunt provided a report on activity from Constant Contact. Tyler McCall recommended our participation in LEAD MO training sessions for new/ potential candidates beginning 11/29 through January. He affirmed the value of its outreach and involvement based on his own experience. Also discussed were candidate and cohort training offered by Moms in Action and Missouri House Democratic Campaign Caucus. Suggestions for outreach in the coming year included: postcards asking neighbors to vote; Central Committee members to help find sign locations, sponsors and outreach in their own sub-districts; texting as outreach and putting precinct map on the web page. The subject of Long Term Goals was raised by Chair Meredith Peace. She asked that anyone interested in investigating should contact her. There will be no December meeting. The next meeting of the Platte County Democratic Central Committee will be on January 19th at the Platte County Resource Center at 7:00 p.m.

Contest Every Race – will meet in the Community Room of the KCPD North Patrol building 11000 NW Prairie View Road 6:30. Everyone is welcome. Contest Every Race is a coalition of Democratic and not-for-profit organizations whose goal is to find Democratic candidates for the thousands of elected offices that currently go uncontested. Volunteer at the Synergy Holiday Giving Event

Join members of the Women’s Club and the Platte County Democratic Central Committee as a Volunteer for Synergy services for The Holiday giving spirit at the Youth Resiliency Center getting ready for kids to come and shop. The address is 2001 N. Parvin Road, Kansas City, MO. It is east of the 35 and 29 split and is in a contemporary building that says "Be The Change." The hours for the day at that site are from 8:30 to around 6:00. You are welcome to come at any time - kids are welcome to come as well.
