The IMPACT Award, established in January 2022, is given to an athlete and a volunteer who has contributed to our organization in a way that exemplifies our commitment to respect, teamwork, and unity. Their behaviors and attitudes show a dedication to making themselves, their teammates, and their communities a place where people are valued and encouraged. These individuals promote behaviors and practices that lead to a healthier lifestyle, including sports, friendship, and acceptance.
The November Athlete Award goes to Andres Sincek.
Andres Sincek has been in Special Olympics for 10 years and has participated in a number of Special Olympics sports, including swimming, softball, and volleyball, and has excelled in all of these. Andres has been a silent leader for his teams and concentrates on improving his skills and following the coach's direction. He has excelled in swimming in the IM and backstroke, staying vital for his other sports. Congratulations, Andres!
The September Volunteer/Contributor Award goes to Leighanne Zdobysx.
Several years ago, Leighanne started Special Olympics with her son, Matty. Since then, she has taken the lead on Fundraising, a position that had been vacant for a while, and successfully ran several new fundraisers this year and started a new sport in South Riding, pickleball. New fundraisers included a Winery Day and Pancake breakfast, which raised several thousand dollars each, and she also led the Loudoun Plane pull team, which raised $7000 this year. She is also organizing a Loudoun Special Olympics dance in January of 2025. Thanks so much for your work, Leighanne!
