A Message from the Mayor

The fall has been a productive time here at the City of Vaughan, as we continue to work to support businesses and jobs in the automotive sector locally. The City of Vaughan hosted the second 2023 Ontario Auto Mayors Caucus, drawing attendees and sector leaders from across the province, as we marked the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Ontario Auto Mayors.

I also had the honour to present five outstanding recipients with the Order of Vaughan for their efforts to make Vaughan a great place to live, work and visit.

With the festive season quickly approaching there will be plenty of events for the whole family to enjoy! Join us this evening, for the launch of Festival of Lights taking place at 7:00pm at Vaughan City Hall. There will be entertainment, hot chocolate and the unveiling and first illumination of a new Vaughan sign!

We will also be hosting our first ever Diwali Celebration at Vaughan City Hall. The celebration is on Monday, November 20 at 6:00pm. All are welcomed and we look forward to celebrating with you.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Every year, at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, we pay tribute to our veterans and fallen soldiers, as we always remember their unimaginable sacrifice. On Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 10:45 a.m., please join us for our Remembrance Day service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph (80 Wallace St.) to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.

You are invited to attend the ceremony and are welcome to join us at the Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena (5020 Hwy 7) for refreshments following the service. Please note, Wallace Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day, and parking will be available at Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena.

The next town hall is in Ward 1. Please join us this Monday, November 13 at 6:30pm at Maple Community Centre.

Come celebrate Diwali at the City of Vaughan on Monday, November 20th at 6:00pm! There will be live performances and refreshments for all. This event is open to everyone.

The City of Vaughan was pleased to host the Ontario Auto Mayors last week to collaborate and share the latest updates and trends in the automotive industry. I want to extend my appreciation to Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, who is the Chair of the Ontario Auto Mayors, for leading us through critical discussions on a range of important topics, including electric vehicle adoption and technology and combating automotive theft. As the economic engine of Canada’s largest independent automotive parts and electronic parts manufacturing cluster, Vaughan is committed to fostering innovation and building a culture of continuous improvement. Our efforts to strengthen our automotive sector underscore our commitment to supporting the businesses that make this industry what it is today: one of our most economically vital. As a proud member of the Ontario Auto Mayors, I recognize that we’re stronger together, and together, we’re making a meaningful difference for the economies of Vaughan, Ontario and Canada.

I was honoured to preside over my first Order of Vaughan investiture ceremony as Mayor. It was such a meaningful opportunity to recognize five remarkable individuals who are playing a pivotal role in shaping our community. Each has a unique background but shares a common desire to make our city a better place to live, work and visit. Gary Gladstone, Wali Mohamed, Jumol Royes, Sunder Singh and Gary Thompson each deserve this great honour and join a select group of honourees who have made their mark on Vaughan. I want to extend my deepest thanks to them for their many contributions and for helping us build a better city.
