Gabriella Awad from Lyons Township OS reflects on her final OS Retreat and the experiences that will stick with her forever:
"Happy November!! November is often thought of as the month of gratitude and giving. I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year and all of the wonderful work everyone has put in at Operation Snowball.
I would like to start off on a personal note and recognize all of the hard work everyone at the Lyons Township High School Operation Snowball has put in to execute a successful retreat over November 7th-9th. Our wonderful staff and theater members have worked diligently from August through November to put on an amazing retreat. We have staff members ranging from Sophomores to Seniors who collaborate together to lead small groups over the retreat. Using all of the tactics and advice they gained over the course of the semester they were successfully able to lead their small groups and form lasting connections with them. In total we were able to recruit around 200 hundred participants for our Fall snowball retreat, thanks to promotion by our Social Media Committee and our Staff and Theater members who spread the word.
I would also love to give a shout out to our Theater members who not only put together an amazing show, but also lead successful small groups with staff. We have around 50 total Staff and Theater members who lead small groups together over the weekend. Theater however also has the responsibility of scripting, practicing, and performing skits for everyone at our Fall and Spring retreats. They spend hours working in the evenings throughout the week to present skits on topics such as Toxic Relationships, Procrastination, Social Media, and Self Worth."

| Focus Youth Gambling Prevention | | |
This project puts cameras in the hands of youth and encourages them to document how they are directly impacted by issues and conditions in their community. Students will complete 1, 4, 8, or 16 lessons of training involving advocacy, public speaking, photography, gambling prevention, and healthy risk taking. IABH staff can easily adapt the number of sessions to best fit the needs and schedule of your OS Team!
From there, students will be given time to take photographs of gambling in their community and develop captions in order to see youth perspectives. After all their hard work, your students will display their photographs with captions at a community exhibition to talk with decision makers. At the end of the project, students will complete a ‘Call to Action’ to continue making change with their creative pieces.
