Commissario Brunetti Mysteries
Guido Brunetti is a Venetian policeman with a genius for detection in this wonderfully written series (32 books so far!). He is happily married, intelligent, a reader, dresses carefully and well, loves good food and wine and opera, and likes women. As Vice-Commissario of the Venice Police, he opposes the blatant corruption around him. He is a defender of justice who will circumvent rules and authorities that do not serve it. Enjoy rich characterization and suspenseful storylines, with the people and culture of Venice providing a fascinating backdrop. The books are best read in order! Pebble Go
When it comes to searching for knowledge, sometimes we need something more purely scholastic than Google. With two elementary children of my own, there will soon come a time when they will want to use the internet to find information for their school research assignments. As a parent, I want to help them but also let them take the wheel and feel confident of themselves in their research endeavors. Pebble Go is perfect for this! Pebble Go is a web based portal created for children, a safe space for them to search within. It has lists of famous people who children may be interested to learn about. Vocalization is available for children who need support with reading, and every button has a friendly voice that tells them what they are hovering over. Pebble Go is made for children to feel confident and helps them navigate very easily throughout the database, even providing buttons to copy the MLA citation for each webpage. I am excited to use this tool as a starting point for my kids to learn how to use the internet to do their research. To get to Pebble Go, you should go through Whelden’s Resources tab on the website, which will bypass any sign in process. You will be brought to the simple front page with two choices of what to research: Animals or People. From there, categories appear such as “Artists” or Amphibians”.I am so grateful that this resource exists and that Whelden has brought it to my attention!

Static Electricity with Elements Etc.

Has your hair ever stuck to your hat when you come indoors? Have you ever gotten a “shock” when you’ve touched someone? Have you ever gotten a balloon to stick to a wall without tape? Learn about static electricity, why it happens, and why it only happens under certain conditions. On the BPS half day, come conduct experiments to learn about static electricity. Get zapped by this freaky, natural phenomenon!

Dino-Vember PJ Storytime

Wear pj's, dino costumes, play pin the horn on the tricerotops and read dinosaur books with Lizzy.
We will roast marshmallows over our make-believe fire, sip cocoa as we cuddle with our dinosaur or dragon stuffies and listen to dino story books. Stuffies can spend the night at the Library or go home. PJ’s encouraged!
