"ISHOF is entering into a new era with the retirement of Bruce Wigo and the merger with Swimming World. With Brent Rutemiller as the new leader and with his generous gift of the Swimming World business to ISHOF, the combined organization will have a platform for sending the good message about the benefits of aquatic activities to the world at a new level," said Kent.
The driving force behind the merger is to combine the areas that ISHOF and Swimming World have in common. The merger is a synergy of strengths. Sports Publications International will remain a separate entity but will spin off its
Swimming World Magazine
division to become the marketing arm of ISHOF. The merger is a classic example of the whole being greater than its parts.

2017 Broward Sports Hall of Fame
|
 Local coaches Sally Hansell and Glen Kaye were honored at the Broward Sports Hall of Fame 2017 Induction and dinner.
Hansell, Broward County's dean of diving coaches, has more than 40 years of club coaching for the Seahawks Diving Team.
Kaye has coached seven state title swim teams at Nova High School in Fort Lauderdale.

 Jon Urbanchek, the legendary coach who helmed the University of Michigan men's team from 1982 to 2004, has been given an IOC Lifetime Achievement Award for coaches.
After his days as the Wolverines' head coach were done, Urbanchek stayed on as an assistant to coaches Bob Bowman and Mike Bottom before moving to Southern California to coach professional athletes at a training center in Fullerton in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympics in London.

Dear Friends of the Swimming Hall of Fame,
 Thanks to everyone for the very positive response to the Swimming World merger with the International Swimming Hall of Fame announced on November 3rd of this year. This combination will provide the International Swimming Hall of Fame with a much needed outreach arm, that Swimming World can provide, to the athletes, coaches and volunteers around the world of aquatics. The merger is a synergy of strengths where Swimming World Magazine will become the marketing arm of ISHOF. The merger is a classic example of the whole being greater than its parts. I have never been more excited about the impact that this will have on aquatics world-wide. We will merge these institutions in a way that will benefit everyone in the swimming community. I see many positive outcomes from this merger. Look for more to come in the upcoming year.

Don Watson,
Don Watson, a great coach and friend of ISHOF, who coached five Olympic swimmers in the 1960s and 1970s at Hinsdale Central High School and later worked at the University of Texas, has passed away. He was 87 years old.

August 17, 1935 - October 27, 2017
Katherine Szoke Domyan, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017 in the presence of her husband, Arpad and son, Bryan. Born in Budapest, Hungary to two-time Olympic Champion Water Polo player, Marton Homonnai, and Hungarian Swimming Champion, Katalin Szoke, she started swimming at the early age of 6 months. More:
Buddy Baarcke
DAHLONEGA, GA. - Leonide Alfred "Buddy" Baarcke, Jr., 85, of Dahlonega, Ga., passed away after a short illness on March 10, 2017. Baarcke was one of the finest swimmers in University of North Carolina history and graduated from Carolina in 1953. More:
