2022 USA Swimming Foundation Learn-to-Swim Grant Applications

USA Swimming Foundation Learn-to-Swim Grant applications for lesson providers are now available. Applications will be accepted until December 15, 2021.

The USA Swimming Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming, has awarded more than $6.6 million since 2007 to help fund youth learn-to-swim programs across the country via its more than 1,500 verified swim lesson providers. In 2021, the USA Swimming Foundation awarded $509,913 to 69 youth learn-to-swim programs. For the first time in 2022, the USA Swimming Foundation will also award grants to programs focused on adult learn-to-swim efforts.

Youth Grant Program
To be considered for the 2022 Youth Learn To Swim Grant, applicants must be an approved USA Swimming swim lesson provider in good standing and provide a detailed project budget and program narrative within the grant application. The 2022 USA Swimming Foundation Youth Learn to Swim Grant Guidelines can be found here and the grant application can be found here. Funding will be provided to programs directly benefiting children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to swim.

The application to join the USA Swimming swim lesson provider network can be found here for those interested in future funding opportunities.

Adult Grant Program
To be considered for the 2022 Adult Learn To Swim Grant, applicants must be willing to register as a USMS club or workout group, provide opportunities for eligible adults to participate in USMS programs upon readiness, and present a detailed project budget and program narrative within the grant application. The grant application can be found here. Funding will be provided to programs directly benefiting adults who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to swim.

Grant Application Webinars
With separate requirements for youth and adult learn-to-swim grant applications, USA Swimming will host a series of webinars to walk applicants through the process of applying for a grant. Visit https://www.usaswimming.org/coaches-leaders/team-leaders/learn-to-swim-grants to register for these events. Recordings of these webinars are available online.

COACHES NEEDED FOR ZONES & CAROLINA CROWN
South Carolina Swimming is looking for coaches to be a part of two of our biggest events of the
2022 season. If you are interested in being a part of the South Carolina Swimming Zone Team coaching staff or the Carolina Crown Swim Challenge staff, we'd love to have you be a part of all the fun these competitions offer.

This season's Carolina Crown Swim Challenge will take place on April 23rd in Greenville, SC
and the Southern Zone Age Group Championships will be July 26th-August 1st in Arlington, TX.

E-mail Age Group Committee Chair Eduardo Dos Santos for more information about the Zone Team and Sport Development Director Chip Holland for more information about Carolina Crown.
South Carolina Swimming is still waiting for DQ Slips & Scratch Cards to arrive. If you are in need of either, your best bet is to download and print forms from the links below.
SAFE SPORT
USA Swimming’s top priority continues to be keeping it's athletes safe. No form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, has a place in the sport. As a part of it's continued commitment to safeguarding our athletes, USA Swimming has enacted enhancements to it's Safe Sport policy requirements.

Starting September 1, 2021, all USA Swimming member clubs and LSCs are required to implement the updated Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policy (MAAPP) in full.

Please review the MAAPP 2.0 Resource Guide. Additional information can be found at on the South Carolina Swimming Safe Sport page. Questions regarding the MAAPP 2.0 policies may be directed to
Safe Sport Director Heather Alexander at [email protected].
Athlete Protection Training
South Carolina Swimming has thirteen Safe Sport certified clubs.

YCSC, CA, CAT, AAYM, FAST, GVST, PALM, YSSC, SMRT, SWIM, SCSC, CAC & RAYS have all completed their Safe Sport certifications. For more information about becoming a Safe Sport certified club, visit the USA Swimming Safe Sport page or contact South Carolina Safe Sport coordinator Heather Alexander.

Clubs that are among the first 1500 nationwide to complete Safe Sport certification are eligible for the Keeping Athletes First Incentive. Clubs will be entered into a monthly drawing fro a visit from a U.S. National Team athlete. For more information, visit USA Swimming's Safe Sport Recognition page.

Renewals
All officials must renew their Non-Athlete Membership as well as take the recertification test for their highest level before 12/31/21. It is imperative that officials DO NOT WAIT until the last week of the year. It has been made explicitly clear by the National Officials Committee that the testing website cannot handle large numbers of officials simultaneously taking a test. Please plan accordingly.

APT and Background Check
If you experience any issues with APT or Background Check not showing appropriately in your Deck Pass, please email [email protected]. Issues surrounding these components of your membership are controlled by USA Swimming and not by the LSC. It is currently being reported that longer than normal times for your APT and Background Check data to appear on your Deck Pass so plan accordingly and do not wait till the end of the year.

Name Tags
With the adoption of a new logo for SC Swimming, new name tags will be ordered for all officials who renew by January 10, 2022. This new name tag will read the same as the name on your USA Swimming registration (First name Last name). If you would like your new name tag to read differently, please email Aimee McMillan ([email protected]).
Thank you for your service to South Carolina Swimming.
We hope to see you there!
