One thing I appreciate about previous camps I worked at was the chance to gather together for a day or two and have all-staff retreats. It’s hard to imagine working at a place that puts on retreats over and over and being on the other side of it, but it’s something I envisioned when I began as Executive Director. I had the opportunity to take most of our staff to such a retreat a few weeks ago at one of our sister camps, Adventurous Christians, off the Gunflint Trail near Grand Marais. We took a few days to retreat and respite, get to know one another’s stories, and dive deeper into five questions, “What is our mission?, Who are our customers?, What do our customers value?, What are our plans?, and What are our results?” Looking into these, from various angles and department perspectives, really allowed us to move from such a ‘season of transition’ to a ‘season of unity.’
