While we are still enjoying all the pumpkin spice everything, we are also starting to look towards Thanksgiving and Christmas. In Door County, we have had an unexpected warm streak this October that continued through Halloween. We will have to see how long this heat streak continues. Door County is getting quiet as fewer guests are visiting Door County, but there is plenty that is still open and ready to welcome you. Here at the Tannenbaum Holiday Shop we are open daily from 10am to 5pm.

We told you a few months ago about our beautiful wooden ornaments. Each one of them features natural wood details allowing them to be effortlessly displayed on any tree. We like that these ornaments are made out of wood, so you don't have to worry about little ones breaking them or what might happen if your cat knocks them off the tree. These ornaments come in a variety of styles from lighthouses and flowers, to sports and wildlife. With so many styles they make for a wonderful present for friends and family members. And with most ornaments being priced at under $13, there is no reason not to buy all your favorites. But many styles are selling out, so don't wait too long.

The tradition of the pickle
|
Many times, people have heard about the tradition of hiding a pickle on their Christmas tree, but are not sure where the tradition came from. You are not alone! There has been confusion about where the tradition started. Many people say it is an old German tradition, yet many Germans have never heard of the tradition. We tend to say it is an old German tradition, because that is where most stories report it coming from.
If you have never heard about hiding the pickle on your tree here is the story that was told. Long ago when parents decorated the Christmas tree they hung the pickle ornament last, hiding it in the green boughs. When the children were allowed to view the tree, they would begin searching for the pickle ornament because they knew they would receive an extra gift for being the most observant.
Regardless of where the tradition started, hiding the pickle on your tree has been a fun tradition for many families. We carry a variety of styles and sizes of pickles to help you pick the best one to start your own tradition!
