Perhaps you’re looking for gifts for a pet-parent you know that loves to spoil their dog rotten? Buying another squeaky toy or treat will certainly never go amiss, but if you are looking for something a bit different, here are some dog supplies that can have an unexpectedly big impact on your dog’s life! | | | | |
#1 - Strollers
A puppy’s socialization during their first few months of life will have a significant impact on the rest of their lives. However, a puppy’s immune system is not yet fully developed, leaving them vulnerable to deadly diseases such as parvovirus or distemper.
| | A stroller hits a happy medium between early socialization and protecting your puppy’s health. You can give your puppy those early, positive experiences to various environments while also protecting their health. A must-have for anyone bringing home a puppy this winter! | | | | |
#2 - Enrichment Toys
Dogs are incredibly intelligent creatures, and many breeds were created to work certain jobs. In this day and age, the primary job of most dogs is to be a companion – a cushy deal to be certain, but it can lead to a bit of boredom. This is where enrichment toys really shine!
| | Enrichment toys such as food puzzles or snuffle mats allow dogs to engage their brains and sharp noses. They’re fun, help slow down quick eaters, and will help your dog burn off some mental energy. | | | | |
#3 - Multiple Crates
For a dog, a crate is basically their room. It’s a special space only for them where they can feel secure and comfortable. How awesome would it be to be able to bring your room with you wherever you go? For households with only one crate, your dog may be faced with the choice between being at your side and being in their comfy crate. Having multiple crates set up throughout your house gives your pup their own special spot while also being near to their very best buddy. (That’s YOU!)
| | | | |
#4 - Different Types of Leashes
Did you know that different types of leashes can serve different purposes? For those trying to work with their dog on leash manners and loose-leash walking, a traditional 4- or 6-foot leash is the best choice. On the other hand, if you’re going out with your dog on a dog-led “sniffy walk”, retractable leashes can be a good option!
| | Extra-long leashes can work well for outdoor training or hiking. Plus, some leashes can even double as a cute fashion statement! Even if you have a reliable leash, consider buying your dog a different type of leash this year. | | | | |
#5 - Another Dog
While some dogs prefer to be your one and only, most dogs will benefit from having another dog in the home. Dogs are pack animals by nature, and having another dog in the house can have both psychological and physical benefits. There is even anecdotal evidence to support that dogs may live longer, happier lives with another dog in the home.
| | We do generally recommend only having one puppy at a time in the home in order to avoid littermate syndrome, but if your adult dog seems a bit blue, it might be time to bring them home a new little friend. Dive more into this subject on our blog post on Getting Your Dog a Dog. | | |
We are now proud to host two different kinds of puppy classes at our Paradise Valley Festival location. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes are open to puppies that originally came from Animal Kingdom or Puppies ‘N Love ages 6 months and younger.
| | These classes are all about getting your puppy off to the right start. Under the guidance of an AKC-certified trainer, new puppy owners can form a solid foundation for their puppies that will serve them well for the rest of their lives. Learn more about what goes into an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class in our blog post about the subject. | | |
SuperS.T.A.R. Puppy Classes are open to any puppy from Animal Kingdom or Puppies ‘N Love between 6 months and 1 year old. While they are intended as a follow-up for AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program, these clases are also open to puppies that are too old to participate in the S.T.A.R. Puppy classes!
This extended class set aims to bridge the gap between puppies that have completed the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes but are still too young and immature to attempt the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification. Growing puppies also have different needs than young puppies, and this class will focus more on obedience than novel experiences during their socialization window.

We assume a lifetime responsibility for every puppy we send home. Our Homes for Life program is the result of this commitment and our dedication to preventing pet homelessness.
We understand that for unfortunate and unforeseen reasons sometimes customers who purchase our puppies can no longer care for them. For this reason, our customers agree to relinquish the dog to us, not a shelter.
We do this to ensure that we can find them a new, loving home but first provide them with the rehabilitation and care that they may need in addition to a neuter/spay as part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership.

To ensure that all of our puppies find homes in a timely manner, we reduce their price as they age.
By no means are we lowering the cost of these puppies because they are in any way less valuable, but it’s our mission to find each of our puppies a permanent, loving home as quickly as possible.

| | At Animal Kingdom and Puppies ‘N Love, we are in and of the Valley, and we are committed to uplifting other businesses in our community. Here is a business we think you’ll like: | | | | Summer in Arizona means extreme heat! This time of year, it’s more crucial than ever to keep our four-legged friends feel (and look!) their best through grooming. That’s where excellent groomers like My Groomer Tilly can help! | | |
My Groomer Tilly, owned and operated by the eponymous Tilly, is a small, one-on-one dog grooming salon. Their private grooming space is kennel-free and works with one family at a time to provide an exceptional experience for your pet. She works with dogs of any size, age, or hair type.
While My Groomer Tilly has been in business since 2019, Tilly herself has been grooming dogs for more than 20 years. A lifelong animal enthusiast, Tilly fell in love with the mix of art and technical skill that goes into grooming. Tilly and her small staff Natalie and Celia build strong relationships both with her customers and her dogs; she’s even been working with some families for their dogs’ entire lives! In her free time, Tilly volunteers her grooming services to some local rescues.
| | | | | My Groomer Tilly is located in the Fur Grooming District Salon Suites on Cactus and Tatum Road. (That’s a mere four minutes away from our Paradise Valley Festival location!) Visit Tilly’s website at mygroomertilly.com to make an appointment, or follow her on Instagram (@mygroomertillyAZ) for photos and videos of her latest clients looking fabulous! You can also reach her by phone or text at (602) 423-9175. Appointments are currently booked out 3 weeks in advance, so be sure to get in quick! | |
One of the things that sets us apart is our dedication to puppy enrichment + dog training.

In the last few years, online pet scams are on the rise and have caused grief for people seeking new pets, with little to no recourse for the victims.
According to the Better Business Bureau, Arizona is at the top of the list for puppy scams per 100k people.
California is the state with the most reported puppy scams, with 167 scams reported to the Better Business Bureau from January 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022. This makes up more than 10% of the total number of scams reported nationwide.

If you are looking for a puppy, be careful & remain vigilant!
Here is how to spot a puppy scam online from AKC:
-
No phone calls. The seller prefers to handle communication by email and not the phone. A reputable breeder will always communicate with you via phone or video chat (if not in person) before selling you a puppy. Fraudulent sellers are oftentimes outside of the U.S. and may be hiding their phone number by only communicating by email.
-
Copycat or stock photos. Photos of the dog or ad text can be found on multiple websites. Search for the text or reverse image search the photos on Google to find out if they were copied.
-
Sketchy payment. The seller asks for wiring of money or payment by gift cards. Be aware that if you choose a non-secure method of payment, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back. Avoid paying a stranger using apps such as Venmo, as it is harder to get your money back if you don’t get what you paid for.
-
Price is too good to be true. Research the prices for the breed you are considering. Purebred dogs sold at deeply discounted prices are typically frauds. If the seller says they register their dogs with a specific organization, you can call the organization to confirm.
