#GJPRSpotlight
Learn about the team at Canyon View Park. With over 110 acres, softball fields, football and soccer fields, tennis courts, open space, walking trails...there's a lot to maintain! Click the video below to see what a day in the life is like and what's new at the park.
Little Library at Las Colonias
A new piece of art called the “Little Free Library” was installed at Las Colonias near the Confluence Shelter by the Botanical Gardens. This little library replaces an old kiosk where books have been shared by community members for many years. The drastically upgraded kiosk or park feature will encourage reading at the shelter and next to the river trail. The new kiosk is being placed in honor of Jeanne Marie Finch, a Grand Junction Resident who passed away on September 16, 2020. She worked for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel from 1971 to 1998 and had a passion for reading and teaching.
Las Colonias Park Improvements
Have you noticed the improvements happening at Las Colonias Park? The Park Division is installing a creative landscape in the plaza area between the dog parks and butterfly pond. You'll see new turf and walking passages that are perfect for hanging out outside.
Volunteer Work at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery
Thank you to the Forestry Division, Forestry Board, T4 Tree Service, Alpine Tree Service, Veteran Memorial Cemetery staff, Colorado State University Tri River Extension, and US Bank volunteers, who spent the day taking care of the tree canopy at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. Work included tree pruning, removals, planting, and stump grinding. This effort was a part of the Saluting Branches nonprofit whose mission is to honor American service men and women by organizing volunteer tree and landscape care for the property dedicated to veterans.
Park Winterization
Some parks are now winterized for the remainder of the year. This includes some water features and bathrooms being closed for the season. The following park restrooms are closed: Tranquillo Shelter at Las Colonias, Riverside Park, Whitman Park, Emerson Park, and Columbine Park.
Last month, we celebrated two wonder projects, the groundbreaking of major renovations to the Lincoln Park Stadium and a ribbon-cutting for the renovations made to Riverside Park. We are excited to bring these newly renovated spaces to the community!
