Internship Opportunities for Your Business

We benefit from and enjoy having a University of New England intern help us here at the Chamber with marketing, operational, and event management support. Many of UNE's undergraduate programs - from business to communications to the allied science disciplines - include an internship component as part of their curriculum. Students gain real-world experiences, apply their classroom knowledge in professional settings, and have more exposure and connectivity to the greater Biddeford-Saco area in the process. Local businesses and non-profits benefit from working with motivated, capable students who are excited to contribute meaningfully while they develop their skills.

Are you interested in learning more about UNE's internship program to see if it might be a good fit for your organization, and/or would you like to partner more closely with UNE as a local employer? For more details, you can Read this Summary of the internship program or reach out to Dylan Brothers, UNE's Coordinator of Interships and Employer Relations, at: dbrothers@une.edu

American Red Cross Training Opportunities

Our friends at American Red Cross are offering Community Preparedness training sessions that are free to any employers or groups who might like to receive them, in-person or virtually. The two training options are:

  • Be Red Cross Ready - a 45-minute home fire safety training that covers the most common causes of home fires, how to mitigate them, and the importance of smoke alarms and escape plans. Home fires are, by far, the most common disaster nationwide, and the Red Cross responds to nearly 60,000 home fires every year. Unfortunately, they're also the deadliest disaster: On average, 7 people die in home fires every day, and 2023 saw a record number of home fire deaths in Maine. This home fire safety presentation can prevent fires outright and prevent injury or loss of life when they do occur.

  • Hands Only CPR - a 25-30-minute class that teaches the lifesaving chest compressions of CPR. Chest compressions are the most important part of CPR. That's because we can all hold our breath, but we can't stop our hearts from beating! Studies show that even trained bystanders are more likely to actually perform CPR if they omit the traditional rescue breaths. This free "Hands-Only" CPR class teaches the essential skills and techniques you may need to save a life in an emergency. (Please note: Hands-Only instruction does not certify attendees in CPR.)
