President's Message
Amy Natoli,  CPM®, RPA
President, IREM Maryland Chapter

As 2018 winds down and we are making the transition to our new leadership, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank our amazing Chapter Leadership. We have an incredible group of dedicated volunteers who serve on committees, as committee chairs, as Executive Council members, and officers.
Thank you all for making this an amazing year! I would like to especially recognize the one and only DAVE THOMAS. Not only did Dave serve as IREM Maryland President in 1992, he's been an Executive Council member for the past 25 years! He has decided that this year will be his last in that capacity. Dave, thank you for your dedication, wisdom, and kind words of encouragement.

As we prepare for 2019, I'd like to encourage you all to stay involved with the chapter. Attend events, meet new people, and volunteer to serve. I promise you'll find it both professionally and personally rewarding!

Closing out the year, we have two great events coming up: the IYP Happy Hour at Main Event in Columbia, and the Holiday Party at The World Trade Center's Top of the World, where Alex Krone will be installed as your 2019 President, along with Ginger Catherman as President-Elect, Theresa Leatherbury as Secretary/Treasurer, and the rest of the 2019 Executive Council. I hope to see you there!
IREM Spotlight: Theresa Leatherbury, CPM®
spotlight
Theresa Leatherbury, CPM® is the President and CEO of Rachuba, a third-generation firm of real estate related entities, including Rachuba Management, Inc., AMO®.

Theresa's father, Larry Rachuba, asked her to join Rachuba in 2005.  At the time, she was working as a Consulting Actuary for an International Consulting firm.  She never imagined she would have the opportunity to work with her father.

It didn't take long for Theresa to focus her energy on the Property Management division of Rachuba.  In 2007, Theresa spearheaded the effort to move the family's properties away from a third-party manager and bring management in-house.  She found the property management business exciting and also knew she had a lot to learn.  She turned to IREM for education and networking.  With a lot of help and guidance from Len Frenkil, Theresa wrote a full management plan for the family's largest property and earned her Certified Property Manager (CPM®) designation in 2011.  Rachuba Management, Inc. earned the Accredited Management Organization (AMO®) designation in 2018.

Theresa shares what she loves about Property Management and IREM:  "There are two main reasons I focused my efforts on Rachuba's property management division.  The first reason is the challenge of managing the staff serving the properties, specifically the opportunity to provide professional growth and development to the teams.  The second is that the business is constantly changing.  I love hearing about new ideas and challenging myself and my team to find a way to incorporate them into the business.  I love IREM because IREM is the main resource I use for professional development and networking.  It's within the IREM family that I hear about the opportunities and challenges others face in the industry."

Theresa joined the Executive Committee of the IREM Maryland Chapter in 2016, served as Education Chair in 2017, Membership Chair in 2018 and is Secretary/Treasurer for 2019.  She is on track to be President of the Chapter in 2021.  Long-term, she is looking to get involved at the National Level and is considering becoming an IREM instructor.  Theresa was awarded Certified Property Manager of the year from the IREM Maryland Chapter in 2018.

Theresa is a past president of the Maryland Multi-Housing Association and a past Treasurer of the Home Builders Association of Maryland.  She enjoys giving back to community.  She served as an Aquarium Advocate for the National Aquarium in Baltimore and a Board Member for Notre Dame Preparatory School.  She recently completed a term as Board Chair for Leadership Baltimore County, and will continue as a Board Member.  She was a Dancing Star at the Alzheimer's' Association 2018 Memory Ball and is continuing as a committee member.

Theresa lives in Towson with her husband and two college-aged children.
