President's Message
Ginger Catherman,  CPM®
President, IREM Maryland Chapter

The holiday season is upon us and it's time to reflect on the people in our personal and professional lives for which we are thankful.  I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such intelligent, hard-working, dedicated professionals, many of whom I now call friends. November is the time when we celebrate those who have really made an impact on the real estate industry and our chapter through our annual awards ceremony.  This year's ceremony was once again held at the Cloisters Castle, a beautiful historic building in Lutherville, MD.  We had a great turnout with over 60 attendees.  I was honored to present the following awards:
  • Amy Natoli, CPM®, RPA - Volunteer of the Year:  We're not sure how Amy is able to not just serve, but significantly contribute to so many chapter and national committees but we are thankful to benefit from all of her hard work!
  • Caitlin Shrum, ARM® - ARM of the Year:  Caitlin was described as "the glue that holds everything together" for her team at Cove Property Management.  She is a very dedicated employee who continues to grow in the industry.  Caitlin is also very involved in the Chapter and is a valuable resource for many of our committees.
  • Steve Margerum - "Committee of One" Award:  This might be a "you had to be there" thing but we presented Steve with this fake award so that he could encourage Caitlin to attend the event to receive her award without raising suspicion!  She was there under the guise that she was supporting Steve for winning an award...not that Steve hasn't done an award-worthy job leading himself as the sole member of the Income & Expense committee!
  • Arc Water Treatment Company - Industry Partner of the Year Award:  There were so many great options but hats off to Dave Hollingsworth and JP Grimes for winning the IP of the Year award for 2019 for their dedication to our chapter.  This year Arc presented a seminar on Legionella for our Region 3 Education committee, which was very well received.  Dave Hollingsworth stepped into the big shoes of Dave Thomas to serve as official co-chair of the golf committee and JP Grimes helped bring home the win in our Chapter - Chapter paintball faceoff with Chapter 92.  We thank you for all that you do!
  • Laurie Davidow, CPM® - CPM of the Year:
Laurie is a Senior Property Manager for Weller Management and was described by their President as a "Rock Star".  She presently oversees over 800,000 sf in downtown Baltimore and handles site management, tenant relations, event management, risk assessment and brand experience and has been a key contributor to the company's success.  We look forward to more involvement and increased partnership with both Laurie and the rest of her team at Weller Management.
  • Sonya Campbell, CPM®, Past IREM Maryland (16) President was also recognized for her significant contributions to the golf committee over the years.  The annual golf outing is by far our most successful event and it would not have been so successful if it were not for all of Sonya's hard work.  Sonya was presented with a "mini basket of cheer" as a special thanks for her contributions.  Both Dave Thomas and Sonya have now stepped down from chairing the committee but will still remain involved in some capacity as they pass the torch to Dave Hollingsworth and Amy Natoli.  Thank you for always making the IREM Maryland Chapter golf outing the "Best Monday of the Year"!

We were pleased to see many nominations this year and the competition was stiff for sure.  If you haven't done so already, please congratulate these awardees!  If you want to be on that stage next year ask us how you can get involved!  If you work for a company who might benefit from better understanding the benefits of IREM, please let us know and we would be happy to set up a meeting or phone call to discuss.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday!  See you at the IREM prom on December 19th!
