Deana Rainey Receives Special Recognition

Deana Rainey, who teaches dual enrollment English classes at Omaha Northwest, was the recipient of the 2025 Student Choice Dual Enrollment Award. Rainey earned her Masters of Arts in English from UNO.

She had this to say about teaching dual enrollment classes: "Dual Enrollment is an

amazing opportunity for students to not only challenge themselves while in high school but also to earn college credits while doing so. The benefits are that they get into that college mindset early on, and it makes them more prepared and successful when they enter college. It's an amazing jump start into their future education. I love to see students who didn't think that college was a reality for them until they challenge themselves with a dual enrollment course. They see that they can do it!"

Rachel Circle is pleased to announce the purchase of this banner in memory of our dear Sharon Maly. She is sincerely missed. Enjoy this banner as a tribute to her for our church.

November Library News...

For the month of November I would like to highlight the book, Knowing God, by theologian J. I. Packer. In it Packer describes the many different attributes of God. During this season of thanksgiving, learning more about God’s attributes will cause us to be more thankful to Him for all of his blessings.

Please come to the church library to find a new book to encourage your Christian faith.

“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners” (Hebrews 13:3a)

Throughout the month of November, the Giving Tree will request specific items for children of the incarcerated in collaboration with Crossover Prison Ministries.

Please take a tag from the tree, purchase the requested items (one clothing item and one toy per child) and return them by November 30th with the tag and a gift receipt attached. If you choose to wrap the gifts, wrap the toy and clothing item separately. *** Make sure the child’s name is on the gift. If you prefer, you may also donate money, which will be used to purchase a grocery gift card for each family. Simply label your check “Crossover Christmas Families”.

The entire family suffers when a family member is imprisoned. We can offer comfort and support by helping prisoners provide Christmas gifts to their children this year.

A big THANK YOU to the generous people of First Christian Church who donated a full car load of grocery items as well as $170 to Heart Ministry Center's food pantry. Your gifts will feed many hungry people.

New At-Home Sunday School Curriculum!

Hi Everyone! It is good to be back in the At Home Sunday School rhythm again. The book I will be taking inspiration from is called We Call Ourselves Disciples from the Chalice Press and can be ordered online through them. It was edited by Kamilah Hall Sharp and Joel Brown. I hope that you will consider journaling or discussing the lessons each week to help you reflect on, explore, and grow your own faith. I will introduce you to the book by sharing the paragraph on the back of the book.

“Feeling called to follow Christ in a complex, fragmented world? We Call Ourselves Disciples is your guide to living your faith within our tradition. Written by Disciples pastors and scholars, this book explores our diverse history, theology, worship, social justice, mission, unity, polity, and more. Understand our diverse views and pursuit of unity and wholeness. Find your place in our shared journey and embrace your calling.”

I hope that a deeper look at our denomination and its unique diversity will inspire you to participate more fully in the church and its ongoing mission in the world. See you online each week as we delve into this book for the next few months. Amy
