Pastor Jeff Smith
Therefor go and make disciples of all nations.
Matthew 28:19

Let that sink in a minute. I am haunted by that story. According to research from the Barna group, the average United Methodist will invite somebody to go to church with them once every thirty-eight years. Let that sink in a minute, because frankly, I am far more haunted by that statistic. Just so you know, I’m not as good at evangelizing as I should be. But I can tell you this: this is something that I repent of, and I will do better! How about you? Honestly, when was the last time you invited somebody to come to church with you? And I mean it just that way: “When was the last time you invited somebody to come to church with you?

You see, I’ve discovered that just asking somebody to drop by sometime isn’t an effective invitation. What’s more effective is if you invite a friend or colleague to church and ask, “When can I pick you up? Our service is at 10:30 Sunday morning. See you at 10:00?” Make no mistake, we are all called to be evangelists. But for our evangelism to be effective, our faith must be both deeply personal and it must be something that is so life changing for us that we can’t wait to share it with others. In fact, we feel compelled to share it with others. Naturally, I hope you give this some thought. But my prayer is that you will do more than simply think about it. My prayer is that you will act on it.

Church Future Meetings

Church Council has scheduled three town hall-type meetings so that the future of Leo UMC can be prayerfully discussed by the church family and questions answered.

Sunday, October 30, in the sanctuary during the Sunday School hour (10:15AM).
Wednesday, November 9, in the sanctuary following dinner (6:30PM).
Sunday, November 13, in the sanctuary during the Sunday School hour (10:15AM).

There will be no second worship service on November 13 to allow ample time for discussion, with the possible result being the scheduling a second disaffiliation vote.

A message from our Council: " We love our church family, and we appreciate your helping us work through this stressful situation at our Leo church. We look forward to a bright future together serving God!"
Come join us on Sunday, November 20, at 1PM
to add the beautiful touches of Christmas to the church
as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord!
Best Foot Forward

Have you noticed all the beautiful seasonal decorations on our chancel? Not only are we able to enjoy them Sunday mornings, but pictures are frequently used for the banner of the appropriate newsletter!

The reason we have these lovely vignettes is due to the talents of JoAnne McPherson and Bonnie Adams, and the donations made to "Best Foot Forward" which allows them to purchase beautiful seasonal greenery and décor. Please prayerfully consider designating some contributions to this fund so we may continue to glorify God and the beauty of His earth in our sanctuary!
Missions Sewing

Our Mission Sewing group will be meeting on the
third Friday of each month, from 9am-1pm. Our next gathering will be November 18. Anyone who has helped in the past or may be interested in helping now is welcome to meet with us. You do not need to sew to help... we can keep people busy with other tasks! If you have any questions, please call JoAnne McPherson or Connie Bowman.
Wednesday Night Dinners End Soon

Last Wednesday night supper is November 16!
Come! Bring your neighbors!

A delicious dinner is served from 5:30 until 6:15 PM, then enjoy fellowship with your friends until it's time to take the tables down for Zumba!
Maybe you'll stay for that, too!

A free-will offering is welcomed as this helps purchase food for the next week!
Come join us!
Men’s ministry

Men's Breakfast
We were blessed at our October men’s breakfast to have 15 men in attendance. It was an enjoyable time of fellowship and prayer. We will meet again on November 10 at 7am in the church gym. Please join us. We would love to see you and enjoy your fellowship.
Tapio school
I wanted to give you a quick update on the Tapio school. As you may know we have set up a separate 501c3 for the Tapio school called The Friends of the Tapio School. This was established to seek contributions from outside our church to help support the school as the number of students served expands and the need for more funding grows. The current budget for the Tapio school is $3,058/mo. Joseph approached me this Fall with a request for funding for a school in a neighboring community called Douje which has 83 students and 5 teachers. The monthly budget to fund that school, including serving lunch to the students is $1,260. We were blessed by a generous donor from outside our church who gave Friends a $10,000 donation to help fund this need. I am in awe of what God has done through this church to help so many children in Haiti. I am convicted that God put this work in front of us so that we could follow through and accomplish his purpose.

As you may have read things are very tough in Haiti right now. The main city of Port-au-Prince is controlled by gangs. I was recently concerned when I heard that the gangs had attacked the women’s prison in Titayen. Titayen is the town where we turn off the main road to take the gravel road up into the mountains to get to Tapio. I sent a message to Joseph who reported back that the violence has not had an effect on Tapio or Douje as they are remote mountain villages.

Following is a text I received from Joseph so you can enjoy his thanks. The need continues. I echo Joseph’s thank you to all of you.

Preschool News

October was quite a busy month for Leo UM Preschool. We had visitors from the Northeast Fire Department, field trips to Cooks Apple Orchard, and Kurtz’s Pumpkin Patch, our school carnival, and our community helpers' parade. Wonderful memories were made, and our students gained so many new experiences. We feel so fortunate to be able to offer these educational and fun opportunities! Their confidence and excitement for learning grows each day.

We would like to personally thank all of you who volunteered your time or baked sweet treats for the carnival, and those who helped provide childcare so our parents could enjoy that special one-on-one time with their child on their recent field trips.  We greatly appreciate your willingness to serve the preschool!

This month we will have our parent/teacher conferences, a food drive for the Grabill Food Bank, and our annual Harvest Feast. As we enter into the Thanksgiving holiday, we are so thankful for your prayers and support of the preschool. We are truly blessed.

Dear Leo UMC Family,

Thank you for all the prayers through this difficult time of my Dad's passing.

Jeff & Jacky Finton

Dear Friends,

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the thoughts, prayers, cards and notes of encouragement that I received from the Leo UMC family. The past year has been quite a journey and I am glad it is behind me. The Lord has brought me through this and your support was part of that.

Denise Stump

Thanks to the amazing teamwork of both adult and youth volunteers, this year's fish fry was once again a blessedly successful event! There might not have been long lines of cars, but the steady stream of patrons was appreciative and generous!

Thank you to everyone who helped - from cake-bakers to baby-sitters... from order-takers to fish-runners to stuffers of information baggies to benefit both Gateway Woods and Habitat for Humanity! Many hands made for light work and great laughter! A most successful year!

Thank you all!
