Eleanor Blair
When Ellie was approached by the publisher of the Florida Native Plant Society's quarterly journal to use one of her painted Florida landscapes for their upcoming issue's cover, she recognized one of the biologists in the journal as a close friend of hers - Jack Putz, PhD from the University of Florida. They decided to team up to write an article on the effects of sea level rise on the Gulf Coast. As part of the project, Ellie traveled to the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve 3 times and painted over 20 pieces, 6-7 of which were included in the July edition of the journal. What a great collaboration of the arts and sciences!

Doug Bloodworth
Doug has been commissioned by the restorers of an ancient castle in Baku, Azerbaijan (a city on the coast of the Caspian Sea) to paint a series of pieces recreating historical scenes in a Renaissance style inspired by Caravaggio. This is a new and exciting experience, especially since it’s his first time working with models in costume and even horseback riders! While it’s been challenging, he’s become a fan of this new style and is looking into doing more model paintings.
He's also been invited back to the Epcot Art & Food festival in the spring!

Sara Conca
This design was a concept of Michael Murphy as he spent the past year conceptualizing a way to better showcase the sides of Sara's acrylic paintings. He eventually landed on the idea of a five-sided acrylic box whose sides were deep enough to become paintings on their own. Michael felt so strongly about this concept, he fabricated Sara’s first 5-sided acrylic box to work with; the results were beyond expectations! These boxes completely transform the viewers experience of the painting. The 3D element of the 6" sides gives the work a sculptural presence and adds even more pop and movement to the dynamic layers she has mastered. And, as Sara puts it, "You get five paintings in one!" Come by the gallery to see “Blue Dancer” by Sara Conca.

Shane Pendley
Shane was commissioned by Kessler Collections to create a Chapter of paintings called "The Captain" for the “Atlantic Building” at the JW Marriott in the Plant Riverside District located in Savannah, Georgia. He collaborated with Kessler Collections interior design team to design concept-to-paintings. Each room in the “Atlantic Building” has at least 2, if not 4 paintings throughout the entire location. Upon your entrance into the “Atlantic Building” you will find the original painting, "The Captain" 60” x 60” to provide a glimpse into the voyage and life of a true captain, set in his water ways. The grand opening of the hotel is set for this November, 2021!
The Captain by Shane Pendley
“The Traveler,
Set in his waterways,
Courted by the glittered tail,
Humbled by a restless stare,
For passage comes with solitude.
To the crustaceans and Aph-Ros,
Find my western wheel,
Pulling for you,
Down the river to the sea.
He found this once,
So shall he explore again.”

Jeff Lange
We're proud to present Jeff's first fully abstract painting, "Hanging Gardens"! This new style keeps many of his signature elements, including his colorful palette and luscious texture - but its mood feels very different from his other work. While we love his iconic female figures, we're excited to see more of this abstract bent!
Keep an eye on our website or stop by the gallery to get a first look at this piece!

Art Term of the Month:
Pop Art
It’s more than just Warhol! Pop Art as a movement began in the 1950’s and reached its peak in the swinging ‘60’s. Its main concern: the musty museum pieces and old masters that were taught in art school had nothing to do with the current culture – and artists wanted to fix that!
In 1957, pop artist Richard Hamilton listed these ‘characteristics of pop art’ in a letter-turned-manifesto:
“Pop Art is: Popular (designed for a mass audience), Transient (short-term solution), Expendable (easily forgotten), Low cost, Mass produced, Young (aimed at youth), Witty, Sexy, Gimmicky, Glamorous, Big business”
As the most well-known art movement of the 20th century, the Pop Art conversation about what art is and what it should depict continues today. Pop on in as we explore pop art and artists (such as Peter Max) this month!
