Supporting Adolescents and Families
Greetings!

Life gets so busy sometimes it's hard to keep up. Phoenix Recovery Programs can help. This monthly newsletter will highlight research, events, and activities happening in the behavioral health field. As always, we are happy to help in any way we can, so please reach out to us.
MARRCH Conference
The 2018 MARRCH Conference was a hit! We got to meet a number of new people and did a lot of learning about how we can better serve our clients.

Our Newsletter Sign Up drawing is over. Congratulations, Dan Sparks, on winning the Honey Baked Ham Gift Card!
PTSD Symptoms and Substance Use Disorders
Researchers at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, The University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the Research Institute on Addictions, University at Buffalo lead a study on the interaction of PTSD symptom presentation in people with substance use disorders and the substance of abuse. They found PTSD symptom cluster patterns varied with the specific substance of choice being abused. This means clinicians need to be watching for how that relationship may be playing out for a client who has PTSD and is seeking services for substance use disorders.

Substance Use Disorder Reform
With the many changes that have come with the 2017 SUD reform, many programs and counties have been left with many questions. As the implementation of the reforms moves forward, Phoenix Recovery Programs is working to fill some of the new needs. One of those is the Comprehensive Assessments. We are able to provide adolescent assessments in addition to our treatment programming. Just give us a call and we'll work with a client to get the assessment scheduled.

Narrative Therapy

One session I attended at MARRCH this year was on narrative therapy. I had not heard of this therapeutic approach before, but the idea of storytelling intrigued me. I found it even more interesting that this form of therapy is deliberate in separating people from their problems to help them build perspective on the issues at hand. I look forward to learning more and implementing this therapeutic approach here at Phoenix!
