Missy's Message

Happy 2nd Birthday, Bethesda House!
Nov. 27, 2016 - Nov. 27, 2018

It has been an amazing two years that have absolutely flown by. What a privilege it has been getting to know and love the 17 young women we’ve been blessed to have at Bethesda House in that time. Many of the young moms have little to no experience in the Bible and haven’t heard of Jesus' unconditional love for them. But, they have the opportunity to see that love in action at Bethesda House as our volunteers love on each one in remarkable ways: teaching her to drive, babysitting every week so she can go out and practice driving, caring for her newborn for a couple hours so she can rest or take a shower, taking her out for lunch to spend some one on one time, listening, encouraging, giving her a hug when needed, and much more.

What a joy to witness the transformation in these young ladies as relationships are formed and trust is built. I am confident that they will always look back on their days at Bethesda House with fondness and comfort remembering the love here.

So, to all that are a part of Bethesda House, THANK YOU! Whether you volunteer directly with the moms and babies or behind the scenes and/or you financially support Bethesda House – we celebrate you as we celebrate two years of this amazing ministry and look forward to many more years to come and all that God has in store.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Giving Is Underway
Every child deserves
a stable foundation.

Christmas cards, letters and donation envelopes were mailed this week to all Bethesda House supporters. We are grateful for all the blessings God has sent to us through our loyal supporters.

Christmas gifts are not necessary at all-- the girls truly appreciate all you pour into them with your love and support. But for some of you that insist on gift giving, space is so limited and we have such an abundant supply of clothes and toys at BH, please consider a gift card that the moms can choose to lock up in their envelope for when they leave and are not gifted with as much. Or, consider gift cards for general home expenses to stores such as Walmart, Target and BJs.

Seeking Snow Removal Assistance This Winter
We have been so fortunate to have so many supporters donate their time and services toward the daily needs of Bethesda House. We have a need that we were hoping would still be a few weeks away! We are looking for a volunteer or a few people who could help us with snow plowing/snow removal over the coming winter season. If you are able to help in this area, please email Missy Porter at mp@bethesdahousema.org.
Thank You Tri-Town Rotary
Thank you Tri-Town Rotary Club of Hanover, Norwell and Pembroke for the GENEROUS donation to Bethesda House!
Bethesda House Spring Gala
The Bethesda House Gala Planning Team is working hard behind the scenes to plan for the third annual Bethesda House Spring Gala to be held this year at Hotel 1620 Plymouth Harbor. There will be a silent auction and raffle, a plated dinner, and live entertainment.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door. Tickets will be $50 each and will be on sale from January 1, 2019 through March 17, 2019.

NEW THIS YEAR: Hotel 1620 is offering a discounted rate of $139 for guests who would like to stay the night. Use code “Bethesda” when booking your room online or by calling 508-747-4900.

Volunteer Corner
There are lots of new changes resulting from the October Volunteers Shaping our Future Improvement Initiative!

  • The Mentor Role has changed. We have implemented support teams of three people each at the affiliate churches of Duxbury Church, New Hope, and North River Community Church. If you attend one of these churches and want more info on being a part of a team or you attend a church that is not yet an affiliate church, contact Missy at mp@bethesdahousema.org.

  • Active volunteers are now using SignUpGenius to manage their volunteer schedules! This powerful tool is streamlining the sign up opportunities in the areas of babysitting, transportation and evening care. Emails are sent when opportunities become available and you can manage your participation without having to set up an account.

  • All trained volunteers are invited (and encouraged!) to join our new Facebook page the "Bethesda House Community Sharing Page." There, you will be kept up-to-date with the mothers and babies of Bethesda House. We encourage the sharing of pictures and videos of all aspects of volunteering: babysitting, evening care, transportation, fundraising events, or just daily life at Bethesda House. We'd love to read funny stories, inspirational interactions and any updates that will keep our volunteers current.

  • Visit the Volunteer Center on BethesdaHouseMA.org to find all the links and access to the volunteer tools. As we are concerned about the moms' privacy, this is a password protected page. All trained volunteers who haven't yet received a password can contact Erin Spencer at erinspencer@verizon.net.

Volunteer Training Session
The next training session is scheduled for January 5th, from 9am-12noon at the Duxbury Church at 2 Tremont St. in Duxbury. This is an informational session for anyone looking to learn more about Bethesda House and all the ways to volunteer and support Bethesda House. There is no commitment to volunteer when attending. Men are also welcome as our van is now registered and will be available soon, allowing us to utilize men to help with transportation needs. Share this event with your friends! Register Now!
SAVE THE DATE - St. Thecla's Empty Bowl Dinner
St. Thecla's Parish, 145 Washington St, Pembroke
St Thecla's annual fundraising effort raises money for different charities each year. This year, they are blessing Bethesda House! Let's show our gratitude for selecting us as the beneficiary with a great turn out from BH. Details on time and cost to follow.
Welcome New Bethesda House Coordinators
Please join me in welcoming and thanking Sandy Lawrence for joining Bethesda House as the Food Coordinator and MaryAnn Nardone for taking on the role of Housekeeping Coordinator. These women are taking on roles that keep the house running smoothly on a daily basis. The time and energy put forth in these areas is greatly appreciated by us all!
Donation Needs
** Bethesda House is in need of expendable items on a regular basis. This month, we are specifically in short supply of postage stamps, size 4 diapers, wipes and disinfectant cleaning wipes.

** Virtual House Warming!
As we have moved into our new property, we have needs for many additional household items. We have updated our Amazon wishlist for supporters to help make the new house a comfortable and nurturing home for our young moms and their babies. Check back frequently as we will be updating the list regularly!

And, as always, thank you for your continued generosity.
Yours Sincerely,

Missy Porter, RN
