In November, “The Month of Remembrance,” our Catholic tradition calls us to recognize the deep connection we share with the Saints in heaven and our loved ones who have passed. As we celebrate All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2), we remember those who walked this path before us—our family members and spiritual ancestors. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Christ unites us with them. We ask for their prayers and strive to follow their example.
This sense of continuity and connection holds special meaning as we prepare to welcome Bishop James T. Shuerman on Sunday, November 17, for my Installation Mass as your pastor. This ceremony is more than a formality; it’s a reminder of the unity of the Church and our place within it. The bishop’s presence symbolizes our bond with the Archdiocese and the universal Church. The participation of our parish staff, finance council, and pastoral council at the start of the liturgy reminds us that each one of us is an essential part of the Body of Christ, united in love, purpose, and mission.
As your new pastor, I am honored to stand on the shoulders of those who served before me, benefiting from their dedication to these parishes. In the same way, we are all heirs of the faith of our ancestors, and we wouldn’t be here, worshiping together, if it weren’t for their commitment. They prayed, sacrificed, and built communities that stand strong because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Today, we are called to honor their legacy by living our faith actively and sharing it with future generations. Let us pray this month for our beloved deceased, trusting that they are interceding for us. And may we, inspired by their example, continue building our parishes to be worthy of the great faith we have inherited.
