|
|
This Thanksgiving we’re grateful for the ongoing support of the members and volunteers of the Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation. Thank you all!
The Country Christmas Faire is this Thanksgiving weekend, November 25th – 27th. Holiday shoppers will find the exhibit buildings filled with beautiful and unique handcrafted items created by over a hundred talented artisans.
Be sure to visit the Fairgrounds Foundation’s Holiday Bar at Gate1 in front of Main Street Center. There’s a full menu of delicious beverages including Irish Coffee, Egg Nogs, Mulled Wine, and Bloody Mary’s. By selling drinks at the Country Christmas Faire and numerous other events, the Fairgrounds Foundation has successfully raised significant funds to reinvest into our beautiful fairgrounds.

Glancing Back ~
It’s been quite a year, and a wonderful comeback from the dreary pandemic days. The Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation has been very busy as our community returns to enjoy California’s Most Beautiful Fairgrounds.
In March the Fairgrounds Foundation directors met with the 17th DAA (Nevada County Fairgrounds) directors to solidify a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations and to discuss potential capital improvement projects. While there are many potential projects, the two boards agreed to focus on working together to rebuild the Lath House, which has suffered considerable damage from age and winter storms.
On Memorial Day weekend, the event season began with the marvelous Strawberry Music Festival. The ambiance of the festival and the exquisite music were intoxicating. Next year’s festival is May 25th - 29th with an impressive musical line up you can preview at https://strawberrymusic.com/lineup/spring-festival-lineup.

The season continued with music festivals and various activities every weekend which were challenging for the Fair staff, given the residual effects from the pandemic. Working resiliently, the staff impressively produced the annual Nevada County Fair in August. By acclamation, it was a great fair and financially very rewarding for the Fair Foundation.
At Opening Day Ceremony, the fair industry’s Blue Ribbon Award was presented to the Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation for providing outstanding support to the Nevada County Fair. We’re grateful for the many volunteers who enthusiastically pitched in at Foundation Station.
By the way, mark your calendars to volunteer at next year’s Nevada County Fair, August 9th - 13th!!

The Draft Horse Classic & Harvest Fair followed in September. It was pleasing to welcome back the beautiful gentle giants and watch these massive horses in awesome competitions. The Harvest Fair, which complements the draft horse performances, was in full swing with musical entertainment, Art at the Classic, many vendors, and the Foundation offering libations from the Gazebo. It was a lovely fall weekend, with many folks enjoying the laid-back old fashioned county fair ambiance.
The Foundation enjoyed another financially lucrative weekend, supported by great volunteers. We’ll be looking for volunteer support at next year’s Draft Horse Classic, September 21st - 24th.

In early October we enjoyed inviting Fair staff, the Foundation’s members, volunteers, and friends to enjoy an Appreciation Party. The party was catered by long-time Fair supporter Tom Stanley; guitarist, singer, songwriter, Chris Crockett provided wonderful entertainment. We enjoyed a relaxing evening being together. It was the first time during the season that the Foundation directors slowed down to have a photograph taken together.

Making a Difference, Moving Forward ~
We’re pleased to introduce the Lath House Repair and Renovation project which the 17th DAA (Nevada County Fairgrounds) directors and the Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation directors identified as their first joint major capital improvement project.
Currently, the Lath House is in major disrepair and in fact was closed during the Fair as a safety precaution. Below are some of the drafted designs, providing a view of the envisioned facility which will accommodate a variety of programs, such as parties, weddings, and conferences as well as the annual fair time exhibits. While the project continues in the developmental stages, the focus is currently on shepherding the plans through design checks and inspections.

Now is the perfect time to make a difference by supporting the project with donations, volunteerism and general enthusiasm. Please join us in making a difference!
