What does this record-breaking year mean for our parks? While your vacation rental is far from free, a visit to Cape Hatteras is. When you turn on Route 12 at Whalebone Junction, you enter the open arms of this place you love without paying an entrance fee like many other national parks you might visit.
That means that even though we saw more visitors than ever at the Seashore this year, our parks don’t receive more funding or staff support. Our park staff had to innovate and make the same resources go further this year to make sure that they gave you the great experience you’ve come to expect on your Outer Banks getaway.
Summer 2021 might be behind us, but looking ahead we don’t expect visitation to slow down any time soon.
So, how can you help? When you support Outer Banks Forever and our mission to protect and enhance our OBX national parks, you provide vital resources that allow our parks to thrive.
We stand side by side with our parks through the challenges and opportunities this increased visitation brings and work closely with them to fund projects and programs that make our parks more accessible and enhance your experience, while also protecting the history, culture, and environment that are vital to our OBX community.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, we want to thank each of you who donated to support our parks this year and look forward to partnering with you going forward.
See you in our parks,
