Creative Explorations Day

Exterior view of the Ralph Draughon Library on Auburn University’s campus.

In May 2022, Venus Hewing (CEOE) collaborated with Madhumalini Nadar (Auburn University Libraries) and Linda-Gibson Young (College of Nursing) to host the Creative Explorations Day for 20 seventh and eighth graders from Sanford Middle School. The first part of the day involved students participating in hands-on experiences at Auburn University Libraries. Some of the activities included a tour of the Auburn University Libraries, an introduction to Adobe programs and the Geography Digital Display. They also participated in the Marshmallow challenge, a team building exercise, and a lesson on how to conduct research through the Auburn University Libraries website.

The second part of the student experience entailed participating in hands-on activities at the School of Nursing. The session started with a yoga lesson on the lawn of the School of Nursing. Afterwards they received hands-on instruction by Nursing Faculty and High-Fidelity simulators on blood pressure screening and the circulatory system. To acquire a better understanding about mental health, the students learned about the physical and emotional behaviors and changes that occur throughout their bodies from infancy to adulthood and learned about the importance of expressing their feelings through Art Therapy.

CEOE will continue to partner with the Auburn University Libraries and other Colleges and Schools on campus each semester to bring K-12 students from Lee County and surrounding areas to participate in Creative Exploration Days.

The countdown to camp is on! Registration for Auburn Youth Programs summer 2023 begins December 1. Each summer, Auburn Youth Programs, or AYP, brings thousands of students to campus, where they explore potential majors, gain hands-on experience and interact with Auburn University faculty, resources and technology. Camp participants experience life on the Plains as they reside in Auburn's resident dormitories, eat at campus dining facilities and enjoy social and recreational activities.

From vet camp to aviation, construction management, architecture, engineering, outdoor, cheer, dance and more, AYP offers something for everyone. Programs are designed to empower youth to find their passion, strengthen skills and shape their future. See the complete list of camps and programs online at aub.ie/summercamps.
