Elevating Elementary Math Instruction

This can sometimes lead to "teaching to the middle," which means all students do not have the opportunity to learn. Pumpkin Smashes are annual events to help divert pumpkins from landfills by providing locations for residents to drop-off jack-o-lanterns that will later be composted. To find locations near you, visit SCARCE.

STEM Network Meeting - November 19, 2024; Westmont

A big "thank you" to Steve Ritz for hosting the STEM Network meeting on November 19. We will meet from 4:00-5:15 pm at Manning Elementary School, 200 N Linden Avenue in Westmont. You can enter directly into the STEM Room if you park in the alley behind the school. Enter the alley from E. Norfolk Street. Or, park in the public lot that borders on Cass Avenue. We plan to discuss After School STEM Clubs and School STEM Nights. And, we look forward to you offering other topics on your mind, too! Light snacks will be provided and raffle prizes will be awarded. Hardest Math Problem Student Contest - Registration Ends December 8, 2024

The Contest is an annual competition presented by The Actuarial Foundation that challenges students in grades 5 - 8 to solve multistep, grade-appropriate math problems with real-world situations and engaging characters. Interested? Click here.

Recycling String Light Project

We are entering the season when it becomes apparent some of our seasonal lights may have seen better days. Work with your students to establish a collection project in your school to gather the discarded lights, then arrange to bring the lights to SCARCE for proper recycling.   • Code.org. This site offers a wide range of resources, including courses and lesson plans designed to teach CS and AI to students in grades K-12.


  • AI4K12. This initiative provides guidelines for incorporating AI with free resources, including lesson plans, tools, and instructional frameworks. Click here for more information.


  • Google AI Experiments. Google provides hands-on AI experiences that are interactive and accessible to allow educators and students to explore the basics.
