Mid-Iowa Scouters,
On behalf of my family and I, thank you for the warm welcome we’ve received since I started as your Scout Executive on August 1
st
. As I travel throughout our 27 counties I see firsthand the passion that each one of our volunteers has for delivering a First-Class Scouting experience to our youth.
As we wrap up our fall recruiting season, I am pleased that our Cub Scout membership in the Mid-Iowa Council grew by over 3.5% from the end of October last year. Additionally, 342 young women have joined our Cub Scout ranks the past three months! It warms one’s heart to be at Camp Mitigwa on a cool fall day and see hundreds of families enjoying the outdoors together at the Cub Scout Fun Day. Throughout our council, these life changing experiences happen every day for thousands of young people.
As we serve more and more young people across the Mid-Iowa Council I am reminded of a quote by Steven Covey that states, “There are three constants in life; change, choices, and principles.” As our programs continue to evolve, we have the choice to embrace these changes and focus on serving even more young people or choose the alternative. And amidst the change and choices that are constants in our lives, it is comforting to know that the values of our Scout Oath and Law have not and will not change.
As our organization and your units continue to grow, I implore each of you that have not yet done so to take the new YPT training. It is imperative that we provide a safe environment for our Scouts and that starts with Youth Protection. If you haven’t already done so, please go to our council website or reach out to your local Scouting Professional or District Volunteer to set up an in-person training.
Finally, best wishes to each of you and your families during this Holiday Season and thank you for all that you do for our Scouts and Scout Leaders.
Warmest Regards,
Matt Hill
Scout Executive

The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is only 8 months away and if you have not signed up there is still time but you must act soon. The requirements: you must be a registered member of Scouting BSA, you must be at least 14 years of age by July 22, 2019, you must be no older than 17 years of age on August 2, 2019. Meet these requirements and you too can be part of one of the truly life changing events offered by the Boy Scouts.
On July 22, 2019 young men and women who belong to scouting organizations in over 150 countries will come together at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, for two weeks of fun fellowship and scouting. With opportunities for camaraderie with Scouts from around the world, the WSJ is a unique cultural immersion experience that supports the World Organization of the Scouting Movement’s mission to create global citizens and educate young people.
