Why I chose this program:
Creative Movement is an interactive class that allows young ones to express creativity, develop body awareness and safely grow through exercise. Ms. Samantha balances class by teaching dance concepts and incorporating imagination building skills. This program allows for physical distancing and allows young ones to be active as we head into cooler weather.

Have some fun with drips and splatters while creating beautiful rustic pumpkins to add to your décor this fall. Pinot's Palette provides everything you need to create a striking 16 x 20 canvas masterpiece. No artistic talent is necessary

Lynne Yuill
Adult Activity Supervisor

Why I chose this program:
Painting helps us to communicate in a different language. Laugh, learn something new, feel motivated to finish what you started and appreciate nature alongside others in a relaxed environment. The staff at Pinot's Palette welcomes all art abilities, and provides the encouragement you need to create your own masterpiece.
This program is designed to give players their first opportunities to be involved with soccer as a team sport. While the focus will be on playing games, having fun and learning the rules, the mechanics will also be heavily emphasized. Every player will get the opportunity to learn skills and participate in games.

Why I chose this program:

This program is a great way to introduce the game of soccer for your child with the emphasis on being part of a team!

Select Days through January 8
Ages 2+

Participants go behind the scenes at Hickory Knolls to become a zoologist for the day. Meet several of our education critters and find out about their life cycles and habitats and then help prepare their food and water for the day. The program is open to a family or group of up to eight people so you will not be in close contact with any other visitors nor sharing materials and supplies with them.

Recommended by:
Chris Gingrich
Asst. Superintendent
of Outdoor Education

Why I chose this program:
This is a great program to get an up close experience with the animals Hickory Knolls utilizes in our educational programming and exhibits. A staff member gives your group personalized attention as you participate in this unique, limited-opportunity experience. And, the structure of the program keeps participation to a single family or group of up to 8 people, so it is very safe in terms of contact with others. Numerous sessions are available through early 2021 by with only one group permitted per time slot and only offered on select days, don't wait too long to register!

Instead of leagues, let's just PLAY! Scheduled times are reserved to play basketball each week with the same group of people. It allows adults a time to get out and exercise while enjoying a sport that they love to play.

Recommended by:
Megan Hatheway
Athletic Supervisor

Why I chose this program:
I picked basketball open play because it is important for adults to stay active. It benefits both their physical and mental health to compete with other individuals that also enjoy playing basketball. It's a great way to meet new people, and reconnect with others that you may not have seen recently.
The Giving Tree
November 2-December 4

In the spirit of the holiday season, park district preschool students make special decorations that will adorn the festive trees in the lobby at Pottawatomie Community Center and Hickory Knolls Discovery Center. Pick an ornament to discover what type of gift you can purchase and donate to the Jim Wheeler Toys for Kids Program, a cooperative effort with the Salvation Army Tri-City Corps.

Why I chose this program:
This year the Salvation Army is expecting to serve 155% more families in need than previous years due to COVID-19.  Drop off a new unwrapped gift at PCC, HKDC, PGC and NRC from Nov 2 through Dec 4.
