Technology Tips
Welcome to the world of voice controls!
Our voices are powerful. And with every passing day, they become even more so. Google Docs included the ability to voice type several years ago. It is super easy to learn.
To Voice Type:
- Click on "Tools" in the toolbar
- Click "Voice Typing"
- The microphone will appear to the far left
- Click on it to allow the microphone to listen
- Start speaking
- Click the microphone to turn it off
Demonstrate this tool to your students, and encourage them to use it! This will make typing their thoughts so much easier!

Transition Talk
At age 18, all students, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, reach the legal age of majority. This means that a parent can no longer make decisions legally on behalf of their child. Many people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities can manage their own affairs with assistance and guidance from others, such as family and friends. If guardianship is necessary, it should be tailored to an individual’s needs. Families considering guardianship should learn more about all the options before making a final decision. Some families opt to hire a special needs attorney to assist them with the process. Other families may opt for the pro se option, which means without an attorney. The proposed guardian represents himself or herself in court. Pro se forms and instructions can be found at www.njcourts.gov. Another option may include turning to the Bureau of Guardianship Services at the Department of Human Services for help with the process. No matter which option a family chooses, the Transition Team of the MUJC is always available to help! Families are encouraged to talk to either of the MUJC Transition Coordinators, Ray Colon or Matt MacDougall, about any questions or concerns regarding the guardianship process. Ray Colon can be reached by phone at (908)762-5600 x4106 or by email at rcolon@mujc.org and Matt MacDougall can be reached by phone at (908) 762-5600 x4710 or by email at mmacdougall@mujc.org.
