Community Meals - is coming back inside! 

Trinity Church will host guests on December 6th. The participants of curbside community meals are anxious to come back inside and have the added fellowship. We will need people to set up, cook a portion of the meal including dessert, provide drinks, serve and clean up.

We will set up a sign up genius and send it out to everyone beginning November 9th on a weekly basis.

To donate towards the purchase of meals, please make your checks out to "Helping Hands Association" with "Community Meal" on the memo line, and mail them to Northborough Helping Hands, P.O. Box 383, Northborough, 01532.  

Northborough Helping Hands is accepting donations for Christmas gift cards through November 12th.

Advent 2023 - 12/3 - 12/24/2023

Advent is right around the corner (starting December 3, 2023) and we would like to have people – individuals, couples and families – participate in the Advent candle lighting ceremony during worship.

By now you have all received your pledge cards for 2024, and we hope you will prayerfully consider your pledge to Trinity Church. Please join us on Celebration Sunday, Nov 19th, as we come together to consecrate our pledge of time, talent, and treasure. We will be collecting the pledge cards on that day.  

In honor of Celebration Sunday, we invite the congregation to a potluck lunch in Fellowship Hall directly after worship service. We hope to see you all there!

It's hard to believe that we are now three quarters of the way through 2023. At our Annual Meeting in January we approved an operating budget of $211,000, with an expected deficit of $23,000. I would like to share an update on our financial outlook.  

Through September, we have received 95% of our expected pledge income for the first three quarters. Thank you all for honoring your pledges. If you have any questions about your pledge commitment, please contact Rae Carlsen at rp.carlsen@verizon.net.  

Our deficit at this point in time was projected to be $20,000, but due to a mild winter and other cost-cutting measures, our actual deficit is about $10,000. We do have one major expense coming up - the annual maintenance and potential repairs of the organ, which will happen in December. I expect we will end the year with a $10-12,000 deficit.  

I would like to thank the Finance and Property Team for their excellent assessment of our financial needs. They almost always predict our income and expenses to within 5% of their actual amounts.

Update on our Afghan Family

Rose and Mark are doing well. Rose now works two afternoons a week at the Northborough Extended Day Program (NEDP) as well her job at the high school. She also takes classes at Quinsigamond Community College. In July she was interviewed by Immigration Services to review her asylum application. Hopefully this will lead to permanent residency, but we are still waiting for a decision. 

Hello Trinity Community!

Even with five Sundays, October seemed to change into November as fast as the leaves did this year. We had a packed month and I am so proud of our community for being open and willing to embrace different ways of worship. From singing 2-part Rounds with Hand Bells and supporting Spanish style music, to scarf dancing and dramatizations, we really stepped out of our box this month. For those who prefer more traditional worship, do not worry. I plan to work with Pastor Will to maintain a more customary style through the month of November and into Advent.

I’m excited for the variety of worship we will get to experience this month. Check out the information below for music details for each week of November.

• November 5th: Scott will be absent this Sunday. Service Music provided by Substitute Pianist, Manuel García-Baró.
• Tom Danforth & Laurie Hunter will bring us a HandBell duet for a Prelude you won’t want to miss. I hear it requires TWO tables of bells. 
• November 12th: The Special Music provided by Hand Bell Choir
• November 19th: Service Music provided by the Worship Band
• November 26th: The Special Music provided by Adult Voice Choir
• Children attending Trinity Tots Program after service with Ms. Sherry will get a musical visit from Mr. Scott. 🙂

This month, our Sung Benediction will be ‘Tis the Gift to Be Simple, #568 in the Chalice Hymnal. Hopefully, it is a familiar tune to some, but our secretary tells me it has not been sung at Trinity since adopting the Chalice Hymnal. Our Guest Musician will help Pam Jones introduce the song to the congregation on November 5th and we will sing it throughout the month. Go ahead and listen to a version of this tune HERE.

For the Song of the Month, I plan to wait until I return on November 12th to introduce it. This month’s song is Let the River Flow by Darrell Evans. It is a new Praise & Worship song in my life and it has been speaking to me quite a bit. I’m taking that as guidance from God and bringing it to you this month. The Worship Band is even planning to bring it to life when they play on November 19th. Take a listen to the real version HERE.

We have 3 dedicated groups of musicians who have been meeting regularly and showing great improvement each week as they prepare for upcoming performances through the next few months and Holiday Season. You will not want to miss the Lessons & Carols Service they are preparing for the 10am service on December 17th, featuring the Voice and Hand Bell Choirs.

Over the past few weeks, I have really felt the love and support our congregation has for its community. I admire all of the members who give their time and efforts over and over again to make what we do at Trinity happen smoothly and look its best. We are very fortunate to have these kind-hearted and hardworking people in our midst. We often mention it in our weekly services, but I AM very grateful for anyone who does anything to help our services and weekly operations. As I’ve said before, people are what makes us special. Nothing we have or do at Trinity could exist without…people.

Fall is a season for fresh beginnings as a new school year starts! We are excited for some new changes to our worship space as we make room for a larger prayerground for families. You will be able to sit at tables together if you wish and take advantage of a variety of family friendly items for the little ones. We will also have worship tool boxes that can be used during and after our worship service.

Trinity Tots will meet on November 12th after service in the nursery.

Community ACTS our youth and teen community service group has begun again. Every other Tuesday from 6-7 in room 105.

The next Saturday Breakfast Fellowship will be on the 18th of November at 8:30 AM. 

This month I want to talk about angels. Did you know that angels are mentioned 285 times in the bible? If you add the cherubim and seraphim, that number jumps to 365. But what are angels? Are they around in the 21st century? How would I recognize an angel if I saw one?

I don’t know if we’ll have any answers to these questions but there will be plenty to talk about. I will send links to Bible readings and internet articles which talk about angels a couple of weeks before the meeting.

The WISE support group will meet on Sunday November 5th & Sunday November 19th from 630 to 8. Anyone is welcome. Free talk, maybe a little direction if needed. We all need support sometimes so drop in if you'd like.

Trinity Church's Conversation Series 2023-2024

Our team is looking for a member or a friend of our church to share a personal/educational viewpoint on an issue around either race, gender or identity. The goal is to promote understanding and caring within our congregation and in our community. We will help you to develop the "Conversation". Thank you for attending “Conversation with an Asian American” on June 4th. As an Asian American growing up in Boston I had a strong family, a loving church, opportunity and safety enabling me to succeed or have a good life.

This is not the situation for many other people as violent hate crimes are increasing at a high rate in our country. It was not until I saw the PBS documentary “Asian Americans” in April 2020 that I truly understood some of my family’s history and why there have been so many hate crimes happening today. What can we do about this?

I have already communicated to my state senator, Robyn K. Kennedy and state representative, Kate Donahue about the need to support bill H.542/S.288-an act to promote racially inclusive curriculum in public school. Our students need to know and understand these hidden or under represented histories because we need them to be the competent, responsible citizens to lead our Commonwealth’s future.

A once a month meeting at Trinity with knitting/crocheting hands that will make shawls for our members in need of a “hug” from a blessed handmade item delivered right to their home to warm the heart and soul I have a simple knit pattern that can be made whenever one has the time to relax and made especially for someone who would love to have it. It comes along with a card of encouraging words. The next meeting will be on Wednesday November 15, 2023 1:00-2:00pm.
