Spotlight on Crash Responder Safety Week

November 14 AM and PM

Sessions Available

From November 18-22, 2024, we’re proud to join in recognizing Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), a dedicated time to support those who keep our roads safe during emergencies. CRSW highlights the importance of roadway safety and reminds us all to slow down and stay cautious around incident scenes. This week also serves as a reminder of the risks that public works professionals face as they work alongside police, fire, and EMS teams to manage incidents quickly and effectively.

Our Role in Supporting Safety

Public works professionals are essential first responders in any road-related incident. From managing traffic flow to clearing hazards, they play a critical role in protecting the community and preventing further accidents. As we recently celebrated National Public Works First Responders Day, we recognized the dedication and expertise these professionals bring to every response.

In alignment with CRSW, our Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training offers public works professionals in-depth skills to respond safely and efficiently. This training covers essential techniques for handling traffic incidents, emphasizing strategies to enhance on-scene coordination and safety. Whether it’s clearing an accident or managing traffic, TIM training ensures that responders are well-equipped to manage incidents with precision.

Register Today to Enhance Your Skills

Our TIM Responder Training sessions on November 14th, available in both AM and PM, offer a timely opportunity for public works professionals to further develop their response skills. Let’s continue to honor and support those who serve on the front lines, helping to make every response safer and more effective.

KTC Research:

Strengthening the Deployment of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) at KYTC

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and transportation agencies around the United States increasingly depends on uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS — also commonly known as drones) to collect data and accelerate project development and delivery. Drones let transportation practitioners safely and efficiently perform many activities, including bridge and highway inspection, construction monitoring, surveying, emergency response, and measuring stockpiles. KYTC’s implementation of UAS has expanded rapidly over the past 10 years, however, the agency lacks well-coordinated procedures for connecting pilots with end data users, scheduling and conducting flights, developing and documenting best practices, and processing and storing data.
