November Update from the Head of School - Gratitude
November 1, 2019

Dear Green Hedges Families,

The faculty and staff of Green Hedges School are our heart and soul. I am extremely grateful for their commitment to our mission and philosophy, their hard work, and enthusiasm. We have an excellent faculty and we are lucky to have them teaching your children. Each morning I watch them arrive at school ready for a new day and with a smile on their faces. Our teachers are dedicated and passionate about what they do, and a priority of mine is to support them.

I am personally grateful for the academic excellence I see at Green Hedges School. GHS students are challenged. Each year our graduates enter their respective secondary schools, whether local public schools or some of the most selective independent day or boarding schools, equipped with the curiosity, drive, confidence, and skills they need to succeed.

We as educators know that academic excellence requires much more than rote memorization of facts and formulas and the ability to fill in bubbles with the “right answer.” Rather, we want students to ask the right questions and develop strategies that make meaningful inquiry possible. From the earliest grades, I see this in Montessori, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 as we encourage children to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. It becomes that much more evident in Grades 7 and 8, and I see that across the board and hope you saw the same in your parent-teacher conferences today.

I am also grateful for the supportive environment I see daily. At GHS, the social-emotional development of children is extremely important to us and we spend a lot of time teaching empathy, caring for one another, and positive interaction. One of my goals, and that of the teachers, is that every student has a place to shine at GHS! No matter where their interests or talents lie, children should be respected and valued for who they are.

Our parents are an essential part of our community, and we are grateful for your ongoing support and trust. I am also grateful to be part of a community that cares deeply about the mission of the school and our Core Values: Achieve Distinction, Inspire Character, Explore Opportunities, and Become Yourself.

Lastly, I am grateful for your commitment to this year’s Green Hedges Fund campaign, Work Wonders . It is our most important fundraising initiative that we ask all families to support each year. The Fund’s impact is sweeping, supporting everything that makes this school a great place for young people to learn and grow. One hundred percent of faculty, staff, and Trustees have contributed towards our goal of $140,000. Every gift counts so please, work wonders. Give to the Green Hedges Fund . A member of the Green Hedges community will be in touch with you in the coming weeks to answer any questions you may have about the Fund.
With gratitude ,
