.......Second Graders Receive Free Book.......

On November 13, 2nd graders across the state of Iowa received a free copy of the book, “Just Like Caitlin” provided by the Dickson and Luann Jensen family. Jensen started the All Iowa Attack AAU basketball program and was a former coach of Caitlin Clark for 6 years beginning in 7th grade. This book tells the story of Caitlin Clark and includes important life lessons like dreaming big, working hard, valuing relationships over winning and many more. This book was read to the students before presenting them with their own copy to keep. The students were so excited!

.......from the desk of miss. Boeckenstedt.......

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have been hard at work in the math classroom.

6th graders are working on a unit about rates and percentages. For part of this unit, they have been learning about different units of measurement for length, volume, and mass. One activity involved them estimating different measurements of length with a string. They then were able to check how accurate their estimate was. They had a fun time competing to see who could get the closest!

7th Graders have been learning about the measurements of circles. They have learned how to draw perfect circles using compasses. As we're wrapping up this unit, they had the opportunity to practice their skills by making their own drawing or design. Here is a sneak peek at some of their work.

8th Graders are hard at work preparing for algebra next year. They are learning about linear relationships and finding the slopes of lines.

.......From the desk of Mr. Huegel.......

Mr. Huegel’s Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH) students are working collaboratively to enhance their historical critical thinking skills. On a daily basis, students analyze and interpret historical documents and then use their evidence to support, modify, or refute argumentative claims. They are preparing for a four-hour exam in early May which will cover nine historical time periods dating from 1491 to present time. The exam will consist of 55 multiple choice questions, all related to primary sources which need to be answered in 55 minutes, two short-answer questions, one long essay question, and one document-based long essay question in which students need to infuse no fewer than six documents that they have interpreted into their argumentation.

4th grade ended the first quarter with a Poetry Cafe to celebrate and showcase our learning with Poetry. Students wrote an original poem using the characteristics of poetry, and an explanation of what inspired them to write that poem.  We then held a Poetry Cafe and invited guests in to listen to us. Students did a phenomenal job getting up on stage and presenting their original piece to a full house! It was an incredible experience for our students and we thank our parents and other special guests so much for joining us! Students are now learning all about animal defense mechanisms and will put this knowledge to use at the end of the quarter when they become authors and write a create-your-own adventure story!

New Text Alert System

We have a new alert system called SchoolMessenger. In order to receive text and email alerts, registration for the 2024-2025 school year must be completed online in PowerSchool. The difference you will notice when you log in as a parent is that the previous student information is not visible. Therefore, registration is imperative for successful communication between school and parents. Reminder - only two contacts will receive texts and emails - those with “mother” and “father” relationship status. When entering cell phone numbers, please designate it as a “mobile” phone. An opt in text message will be sent before the first day of school to parents to opt in to receiving these alerts.

If the information in PowerSchool is not accurate, you will not receive these alerts.
