Some of the things that happened

Kula Farm Received a $100,000 Grant from
The Gannett Foundation.
|
You may remember from our September email that we had a very successful fundraiser campaign organized by the Gannett Foundation. With your help we raised enough money to qualify for a local grant and mentioned that -even though it's a long shot- we could qualify for a national grant. To our pleasant surprise we got it!
We are very thankful and super excited to start expanding our operation by adding a restroom, kitchen, pavilion and more.

Green Fest
Pictured is Patricia Garcia of the Americorps volunteers. She tended to our table during Asbury Parks Community & Green Fest in Springwood Park where they also kicked off Porch Fest. Interfaith Neighbors was fortunate enough to be one of the beneficiaries again. We had some visitors that came for a tour at the farm, it was a beautiful day.

Spanish Music class
Something very new to the farm, and it turned out to be pretty popular. We had Isabel from Baila Baila perform, and interact with the children and their parents. We sang songs, danced, learned Spanish and (most of the little ones) had a great time over all.

Our fall fundraiser was a success! Thank you all who came out to support and extra extra thanks to Gallo Winery and Bradley Brew Project who supported the evening while the great Dillan Schindler played just the right tunes at the right moment, he has a great heart for the community, thank you! Haute Feast was so kind to cater the evening again, their support to the farm has stretched over many years now.

Kula Farm to Table is Back
|
We're so happy to have our table filled with guests again, a few less than normal to not pack our sardines too tight but still fun and fruitful enough to make it a success. Omer from Kaya's Kitchen in Belmar did a great job, really worth a visit when you are a vegan.

Kula For Kids: All About Trees
|
We had some little explorers at the farm who learned all about trees from Ms. Michelle. They were quizzed about trees and their features and looked for creatures that hide around trees. After a healthy snack they left with a nice craft project to do at home.

Lori had a great crew learning about Lasagna gardening. This was another 'hands on' workshop where participant actually get to practice their gardening skills on site and also can get all their gardening questions answered by a professional; Lori Garton, who teaches many of the workshops has been gardening and farming for years.

Below you can see our typical Wednesday morning scene; it’s donation day to the next door food pantry. Zero food miles and hardly any packaging wasted. We started farming the backyard of the next door Bethel AME Church food pantry 2 years ago, a great union of forces! We grow and add some healthy options to their inventory, delivered to their back door, and they advertise & distribute out the front door.

All about Fruits and Vegetables
|
|
Ever wonder how to get kids to eat their fruits and vegetables? Or where the veggies and fruits come from in our local areas?
We'll have some tips how to do this! We will all gather and get creative so even your pickiest eater will love it!!! Ms. Michele, a green team leader from the George L. Catrambone School in Long Branch, will bring some cool garden choices of fruits and veggies for children to sample, taste and create with!
Did you know?
The vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables provide the following benefits: Promote good health and protect against disease, both now and in the future. To ensure the child's healthy growth and development. Strengthen a child's immune system and help fight illnesses. Include at least one leafy green or yellow vegetable for vitamin A such as spinach, broccoli, winter squash, greens, or carrots each day. Include at least one vitamin C–rich fruit or vegetable, such as oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, melon, tomato, and broccoli each day.

Kula for Kids is a great way for your little ones to explore a garden and to learn about food, nature and much more.
It is a smart opportunity to get engaged in STEM education in an inspiring setting.
We'll provide different exciting topics every month for the kids to learn about.
We'll provide a snack and a drink. Please have your child wear proper footwear, crocs or sandals aren't very practical at the farm. You can drop off / pick up your child, or -if you prefer- stay to help out with class activities. You will be asked to sign in and leave an emergency contact number.
Masks are recommended but not required since we'll be mostly outside or in the well ventilated greenhouse. Please understand the risk inherent in your visit to the Farm and help prevent spread by keeping distance and washing or disinfecting you hands upon arrival.
It is a free class, donations are always welcome to support our future programs.

Kula For Kids Ages 8 - 12
Saturday Nov. 27th, 10:30am - 12pm
All about Local Indigenous Tribes
|
|
We’ll talk about how stories pass down differently from how we hear stories today. We will also discuss toys children from indigenous cultures played with versus what we play with now. We'll make a toy like ornament that they can use for the upcoming holiday season with lots of finds from nature to complete it. After a story about Native American fry bread we'll share a fry bread snack as well. The goal is to learn something from the past and connect it to how we live our lives today.
