Dear Erin,

As we move into a new season, we do so with such gratitude for our community. Last week, artists and art supporters, many old friends of the CAA, gathered for a moving reception honoring the memory and legacy of our dearly departed community member, Phil Young. Phil's impact, first as a high school art teacher, and later as a friend and mentor to many, was palpable in the remembrances of those in attendance. To honor this legacy, CAA will launch the Philip Young Painting Prize, to be awarded annually during our Emerging Artists Exhibit. Sales from retrospective event raised nearly $2,000 to support this fund.

This month, two new exhibits open in our three galleried: BLUE at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery and CAA @ University Place; and What If ... Why Not? at CAA @ Canal. And, don't miss our annual Holiday Small Works Sale - for artists, the entry deadline is tomorrow, November 2. For art lovers, don't miss the December 7th opening reception, a festive celebration and a great time to purchase affordable, small, artwork.

And, if you haven't already, mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 28 - Giving Tuesday. CAA celebrates this global day of giving as CAA Day for the first year. Stay tuned for events and updates!

On October 25, we celebrated the artwork and life of painter and CAA Lifetime Member Philip Young, who passed away in July. Phil was many things - an dry-humored, nurturing, a talented painter - all qualities underscored by the many in attendance at his memorial retrospective. To honor Phil, we are launching the Philip Young Painting Prize, to be awarded annually as part of CAA’s Emerging Artists Exhibit. This award will recognize Phil’s dedication to painting and supporting new generations of visual artists.

Art is Transformative ... Just like your support

Mark your calendars for November 28 - CAA Day + Giving Tuesday's global day of giving. Our goal - to raise funds and friends to support CAA's mission. Stay tuned for updates!
