Here in Shorewood, the Village Board of Trustees issued a proclamation on Oct. 20 honoring the Friends for helping to move our library “from good to great” with support for initiatives like the Early Learning Center renovation and Shorewood Reads 2026 and programs like Shakespeare in Shorewood and the upcoming Holiday Book Talk.

Become part of our grassroots organization through your financial support or your service. You can find membership forms at the library’s front desk or join online here.

Resources

Domestic Violence Awareness

In October, community partners including the Shorewood Police Department, Shorewood School District, Sojourner, and the Village of Shorewood held a free educational event organized by the Shorewood Community Network to learn and discuss ways to prevent and respond to issues related to domestic violence.

Shorewood Public Library is a safe space that invites all people to learn, grow, and connect. We’ve gathered a variety of resources for all ages to learn more about domestic violence — explore them on our library blog below.

Spotlights

Shorewood Reads 2026 to Feature Bestselling Author Angie Kim 📚

A beloved Shorewood tradition returns next spring! The community-wide Shorewood Reads event invites everyone to experience one remarkable book together, and the pick for 2026 is Happiness Falls by Angie Kim.

Through events, discussions, and shared stories, we’ll connect as readers and as neighbors, culminating in a day of events with the author on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Stay tuned to shorewoodlibrary.org for the full schedule of events to be announced soon!

Shorewood Reads 2026 is presented in partnership by the Shorewood Public Library and the Friends of Shorewood Public Library, with support from the Lange Bequest and Boswell Book Company. All Shorewood Reads events are free and open to the public.

Welcome our New

Youth Services Librarian: Bridget Lee

Our former Youth Services Librarian Abby Ott moved into our Teen Services Librarian position, and in October we welcomed Bridget Lee as our new Youth Services Librarian! 🎉

Bridget joins Shorewood Public Library with extensive public library experience and a host of fresh ideas for both the library and the Shorewood community.

Get to know Bridget below—and be sure to say hello when you see her at the library!

🎉 Favorite holiday: Pie Day (March 14)

📚 Favorite part of working at SPL: Getting to know everyone on the staff and the patrons. Everyone has been so nice. It’s also been wonderful helping put the new ELC together.

🧶 Hobbies outside of work: Some of my favorite hobbies include rock climbing, embroidery, knitting and reading.

📖 Favorite book: A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers

How To Haunt: Ghost-Its 👻

We had a wonderful time at our “How to Haunt: Ghost-Its” workshops in October!

Artist, writer, and Shorewood Public Library Clerk Zack Pieper guided us in crafting tiny ghostly figures using markers and sticky notes, turning them into fun and imaginative mosaics!

A huge thanks to Zack for sharing his creative talent, and to everyone who contributed a ghost to our Ghost-It Mosaics. Come take a peek — they're haunting the windows of our Children’s Area! 👻

📣 Important Update: Library Book Supplier

Baker & Taylor, one of the largest book suppliers for libraries and schools, has unexpectedly closed.

As a result, there may be delays in the availability of new titles. We are actively working to find new sources; however, the next largest supplier is currently overwhelmed due to the sudden increase in demand.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate this change and continue working to provide you with the books you want and need.

Check them out at the library!

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

A Comic Book Cookbook

Hugh Amano and

Five-Ingredient

Dinners: 100+ Fast, Flavorful Meals

America's Test Kitchen

"This cookbook offers an amazing collection of simple, satisfying recipes with manageable ingredient lists. It's a game-changer and a definite go-to for weeknight dinners."
