Dear friends,
We begin November with our Brian McLaren Wisdom Centre event.   Join us tonight at Knox United Church at 7 pm for a public lecture.  If you don't already have tickets they will be available at the door for $30.  Brian will also be our preacher on Sunday (streamed from Hillhurst).  More information about Brian and this event at Wisdom Centre website.
The other thing to say about this coming weekend is that the clocks change.  So no excuses about missing church - you get a free hour anyway.  Fall back and come to church!
November also brings back the Wisdom Centre Interfaith Bible Study.  Join me at Bnai Tikvak in Britannia Wednesday afternoons from 1 - 2:30 as we continue to make our way through the Book of Exodus.  All welcome, no need to register.  Bring a Bible if you have one.
Friday, November 22 we are also very much looking forward to welcoming best-selling Muslim author Irshad Manji.  This is an event the Wisdom Centre will be co-hosting with Hillhurst United.
"Lose the Labels: "Savvy Activism for Justice,
Not Just Us "
An evening with Irshad Manji
As the rifts in our community life turn into deep chasms, and tension grows, Irshad Manji offers a brave, remarkably new perspective on how to find common ground even as we stand our ground.
November 22, 2019 7pm and 9pm (doors open at 6:30pm)
Hillhurst United Church, Kensington
Tickets are $15 online until Nov 20 or $20 at the door.
Free or discounted tickets by request - just ask!
IRSHAD MANJI wrote the #1 Globe and Mail bestseller, The Trouble with Islam Today as well as the international bestseller, Allah, Liberty and Love. Her latest book, Don't Label Me, is a guide to reclaiming our humanity - and each other's - at a time of trenchant tribalism. Now, in partnership with Oxford University, she is building Moral Courage College, which teaches people how to do the right thing in the face of fear. Oprah has given Irshad the first annual "Chutzpah Award" for boldness.
At home at St. Laurence please don't miss out on our Advent Potluck on Saturday, November 30th.  We will mark the beginning of Advent today by making advent wreaths that you can take home for your table,  singing and eating.  Sign up sheets in the narthex.  If you had a wreath base from last year please bring it so we can add new greens and candles.  If you don't have a base Bob Herold is making more.   We are asking everyone  for a donation of $20 to cover the cost of the candles and greens.
With every blessing,
