The Launchpad is a community 'Space for the Arts' featuring two studios that are affordable teaching, working and performing spaces for a diversity of artists--perfect for movement-based arts, aerials, music, theatre, or any creative gathering. Classes, events and rehearsals at The Launchpad are held by individual entities. First Friday: ALLOY & Feverish Migration
Hosted by Carbondale Arts
Carbondale Arts will host an Opening Reception for two exhibitions, ALLOY! and Feverish Migrations on Friday, Oct. 7 from 6 to 8p.m. at the R2 Gallery located in The Launchpad. The metal works exhibition ALLOY! features work by Haley Bates, Mark Cesark, Matt Haugh, Alison Finn, Reina Katzenberger, Olivia Pevec, Natasha Seedorf and Ira Sherman. These artists were chosen to show the "malleability of metals" quite literally through a spectrum of materials and methods. Feverish Migrations brings together poetry by Cameron Scott and engraved prints by past Anderson Ranch printmaking instructor, Johanna Mueller. Scott is a winner of the 2016 Blue Light Book Award for his recent work, "The Book of Cold Mountain" a collection of poems illustrated by Mueller.

Dia de los Muertos Community Celebration
Hosted by Carbondale Arts, The Third Street Center, The Valley Settlement Project, Thunder River Theatre and the Carbondale Creative District
The annual celebration of the dead returns on November 4 for First Friday in an evening of color, procession and performance. The evening will begin with an art walk around the Carbondale Creative District from 5 to 6:30pm. At 6:30pm, all will gather at the Thunder River Theatre for a performance by students from Ross Montessori as well as Community Offering and the Innvocation of the Dead. Following these pieces, we will process to the Third Street Center for altar viewings, traditional foods, hot chocolate, face painting, songs from Waldorf School students, and music by La Tricolor and Mount Horeb Band. The procession will begin at 7pm. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration.

Community Safety, Awareness, & Self Protection: a body centered approach to creating safety for ourselves & community

The community is invited to join Robyn Hubbard and Karen
Bradford for a body-centered approach to creating safety and healing around issues of assault and oppression, especially toward women. We will engage in movement-based dialogue and community building while also increasing awareness and learning practical martial arts skills for self-protection. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this empowering community experience.

For the holiday season, Carbondale Arts transforms the R2 Gallery into a shop filled with artisanal goods created by local and regional artists! The Deck The Walls Holiday show features remarkable handcrafted items
such as candles, wool hats and gloves, silk scarves, blown glass, ceramic kitchen wares, one of a kind holiday ornaments, cards and so much more.
Deck the Walls will be open for shopping Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5:30pm, Thursdays until 6:30p.m. and Saturdays from 10a.m. to 5p.m. from Nov. 20 through Dec. 24.

Integrative Yoga

A non-traditional yoga class that integrates the contemporary schools of body work such as Alexander & Feldenkrais, kinetic awareness and polarity balancing; to gently strengthen the core, balances stretch with strength, increase range of motion, quiet the mind and balance emotions.

Capoeira Angola is an Afro-Brazilian art form that incorporates elements of dance and music into graceful, rhythmic, and cunning movements. Through the study of Capoeira Angola students build self-esteem and self-awareness of both the mind and body. No prior dance/gymnastic/martial arts experience is required. The class will include instruction of basic Capoeira movements and a brief music session. Please wear long pants, a t-shirt that can be tucked in, and canvas/athletic shoes.

Himalayan Yogini: Hatha Inspired Yoga

Devika, originally from the mountainous Annapurna region of Nepal, is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and is trained in Ayurvedic massage and health food management. Kundalini Yoga & Going Resonance Therapy
Kundalini is the yoga of awareness, an unfolding of your own true nature. It works rapidly to transform and elevate the practitioner physically, emotionally and mentally - a profound workout for the mind, body, and soul.
Each class will consist of a brief warmup followed by a kriya or series of prescribed exercises, then a deeply healing and relaxing gong sound immersion and finishing up with a brief meditation and delicious, warming yogi tea and community circle. Sat Nam!

Intermediate Ballet is the most advanced level offered at Crystal River Ballet School. Students at this level are challenged to work towards their own personal level of excellence. The combinations become more complicated and rhythms of music more varied. Pirouettes, adage, and advanced jumps are added to center combinations which increase stamina, balance and strength. Phrasing, movement dynamics and individual artistry are investigated to bring forth the uniqueness of the individual dancer. $75/month for 1x week

The closed studio, Studio C, features 680 square feet of spring-loaded Harlequin dance floor, ballet barres and mirrors designed by and for professional dancers. This is also a great space for private meetings. The Open Studio features 1150 square feet of spring-loaded Harlequin dance floor as well as rigging for aerial silks and other aerial arts. The public can view classes and rehearsals in progress. The Open Studio can also be adapted for intimate performances. In addition, one or both studios may be rented for special events and for full days.
