Essence of Architecture in East Haddam:
Expressions of a Connecticut River Town
A presentation by George Fellner

George Fellner, local architect and fine art photographer, will discuss the Essence of Architecture in East Haddam: Expressions of a Connecticut River Town. The presentation will offer highlights about historical roots, geology, geography, industry, and social factors. The program includes unique images, architectural style characteristics, and intriguing historical backgrounds as well as whimsical narratives.
The intent of this presentation is for viewers to experience the essence of East Haddam’s architecture, and to gain understanding and insights regarding place, history, and humanity.
George Fellner, a local architect and fine art photographer, has been presenting programs, exhibiting his photographs in juried gallery shows and permanent art collections, developing videos, and writing articles and books on architectural and art/photography themes over the past 20 years.

You won't want to miss this popular event -- Dr. Karl Stofko's annual presentation of weird and wonderful historic events from East Haddam's colorful past!
Dr. Karl Stofko, author, town and Historical Society historian, is East Haddam's very own walking historical encyclopedia and master mystery storyteller. This year, he will share intriguing stories of:
- "Accidental Death": 2 families, 2 deaths. One is accidental and the other is an ax murder -- all in the Ackley/Smith family!
- "Double Murder By Fire": Halsey Coon burned both his wives in the Millington section of East Haddam!

We all have a story to tell. This workshop will help you write your own life story for yourself or to share with family, friends, or the universe. The “Write Your Story” workshop series will be held for five Thursdays (November 9, 16, and 30; December 7 and 14) from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. In this workshop, you can write about just a slice of your life or from birth to the present.
Workshop leader, Susan R. Waide, has taught memoir and creative writing classes at Connecticut colleges & universities. In addition to helping others bring their life story to publication, Susan is an editor, writer, & public relations consultant and writes for children. Her picture book manuscript, Three Sisters Grow In My Garden, was awarded finalist at the 19th Annual Tassy Walden Awards for New Voices in Children’s Literature.

Dates: Thursdays from 1 - 3 PM: November 9, 16, 30, December 7 and 14
Registration fee: $140 for series for non-members ($20 will count toward a new membership for 2024); $120 for current (2023) members.
