YOUR EFFORTS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
As a Result of Your Telephone Calls and E-mails to Secretary Perdue, USDA is Now Accepting Comments on its Proposed Rule to Hide Inspection Reports from the Public

In an effort to protect from public scrutiny those puppy mills that abuse and neglect their animals, USDA is proposing regulations that would prohibit the public from having access to USDA inspection reports.

Shockingly, USDA unlawfully closed the comment period several weeks EARLY in order to prevent animal welfare adv ocates from protesting this proposed rule.

Due to your telephone calls and emails to Secretary Perdue’s office protesting the premature closure of the comment period, USDA has now re-opened the comment period.

PLEASE CONTACT USDA ONCE AGAIN AND COMMENT IN OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED RULE THAT IS INTENDED TO KEEP THE PUBLIC IN THE DARK ABOUT PUPPY MILLS!
Comment Here
  • Please explain that public access to inspection reports of puppy mills is critical for oversight of the industry in order to ensure public safety, consumer protection, and the health and welfare of the dogs.

  • Emphasize that USDA’s own field staff has confirmed that public access to inspection reports is a strong deterrent to Animal Welfare Act violations.

  • Inform USDA that this is not a privacy issue. These reports document compliance with the federal Animal Welfare Act at licensed commercial dog breeding establishments and does not invade the privacy of private animal owners. No other commercial industry is exempt from public scrutiny.

  • Request USDA to extend the comment period since it was unlawfully closed for several weeks preventing the public to comment on this rule.

The Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation is hard at work preparing for our 2020 "Open Your Heart" gala happening on Sunday, March 1st at Lucas Park Grille in downtown St. Louis. This theme highlights our focus on the dogs and our efforts to improve their welfare and to end puppy mill cruelty.
