Due to the damage caused by the Getty Fire on the roads and areas adjacent to Carondelet Center, we have cancelled our Annual Angel Boutique which was scheduled for Nov. 9th.

Sister Diane Smith Visits the UN
The highlight of the meeting of the US Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph in New York was a visit to the United Nations. The tour and the briefing highlighted the importance of the UN members’ commitment to environmental, social and economic challenges faced by the world’s community. We met with our representative to the UN, Sister Barbara Bozak and her alternate, Sister Marianne Sennick, both representing over 10,000 Sisters from the Congregations of St. Joseph in 54 countries. The Sisters have had an official presence as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the UN since 1979. General Consultative Status with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was granted in 1999. This gives our representative the opportunity to express views and make statements during official UN conferences and meetings on significant topics. Sister Barbara stressed the importance of supporting the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development articulated in 17 goals. As CSSJ Federation members, we dialogued on ways to implement those goals in our various geographic regions.

Dismantling Racism and
White Privilege Workshop
Over 50 Sisters, two Associates and one CSJ Candidate participated in the Dismantling Racism and White Privilege, day-long event last weekend in Los Angeles, CA.  The powerful video “The Color of Fear” stimulated the discussion and deep, personal sharing.  Eyes were opened; hearts were touched. Although publicized as a ‘first step,’ for many, a giant leap was made.
