Hello KGPC!

Can you believe we are already entering November? We are kicking off the first Sunday in November with the children's Music Makers group leading our opening song in morning worship. This song, "The Spirit of the Lord" by Mary McDonald, was commissioned for KGPC a few years ago and embodies the core values we treasure.

Following the morning service, this Sunday at 2:00pm our piano dedication concert will feature our KGPC musicians along with cellist Jeff Phelps. This is a great opportunity to invite friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to our campus to help them understand the mission of the people here. There will be wonderful music including a very special surprise you won't want to miss. This concert will emphasize three things: Praise and Thanksgiving, Community, and Vision. In the book of Ruth, we find a woman who followed, served, worked, and eventually was blessed to become the ancestor of Jesus. Ruth is the inspiration of our dedication theme, and I look forward to unfolding the musical journey with you.

Sunday November 9th, one of our middle schoolers, Hannah Van Auken, will sing a solo at Gather dinner church. I am very proud to be working with Hannah and believe this may be the first of much the world will hear from her. We look forward to our Joyful bells sharing music of thanks followed by Kailey's installation service on the 23rd, and the start of the Advent and Christmas season on the 30th. Hold onto your hats! The children's Christmas Pageant and the Sanctuary Choir Christmas Cantata are just around the corner!

Blessings Abound ~ Happy Thanksgiving!

A Moment for Gratitude

KGPC family,

As I reflect on the past three months and the message I’d like to share with you, I have found myself feeling profoundly grateful. I am grateful for all the ways that you as a congregation step into partnering with each other and with God in ministry. When we asked you for help feeding our youth donuts on Sunday mornings, you contributed over $700 in gift cards. When we asked you to help with Trunk-or-Treat, you donated enough candy to feed the neighborhood and showed up in great spirits as we welcomed around 380 people onto our campus for fellowship and fun. Thank you for doing the work of God in the world in both the big and small ways.

I also want to express personal gratitude for all the love, cards, and comments of congratulations I received this month. In addition to your kind and uplifting words and cards for pastor appreciation month, the support of this congregation around my ordination service on October 19th was most definitely felt 1200 miles away in Texas that Sunday during which Pastor Chris presented me with a wonderful stole on behalf of KGPC. It also meant the world to me to receive pictures afterwards of some of our church family in the Fellowship Hall for Gather Dinner Church surrounding the TV screen as they were watching the live stream of the ordination service. It is such an honor and a privilege to begin my ordained ministry alongside this community of devoted disciples. I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us all.

Faithfully yours,

Pastor Kailey

Let Kindness Flow

Words can’t express how much I truly appreciate the way you celebrate Pastor Appreciation Month. I read every single card you sent, cherished each word, enjoyed hand picked flowers, and soaked up the love. This congregation is so very generous in many ways and taking your time to write a kind note was a gift I will savor. Kindness is actually part of this week’s sermon as we explore Micah’s second requirement: Love Kindness. On this upcoming Sunday before elections, may we be a people of kindness. Acts of kindness flow from the deep compassion we have for others. May we cultivate compassion for all people and let the kindness flow. My heart is full of gratitude for the kindness you have shown me. Now let’s permeate this world with the same loving kindness that we have first experienced from God.

Abide Nearer, Grow Stronger, Shine Brighter, LOVE Deeper, Transform Your World,

Pastor Chris

OCTOBER 2025 SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Session gathered for scripture and contemplation studying Philippians 4:8-9. This scripture written by Paul teaches us to keep our minds set on whatever is true, honorable, just, and pure, pleasing, commendable, and whatever is worthy of praise. If we practice these principles, the God of peace will be with us.
  2. In December of 2023, Session committed to ensuring that we would support one of our own members’ housing needs. Serve asked for continued support in 2026 with the knowledge that someone is continuing to work toward a permanent solution.
  3. As of September, the Property Ministry Team spent almost all of their budget due to several unexpected high expenses. Session approved Finances recommendation to take the remaining expenditures from the Property Maintenance Fund.
  4. We held three Sessions with Session meetings in the last month to discuss the details of a Pre-design proposal from an architectural firm to evaluate our building and provide possibilities for a facility renovation, and the rationale behind it. We engaged in meaningful conversation at each meeting. A person was designated to take notes as verbatim as possible for each comment and question that was raised. Session is grateful for every person who came to these sessions and participated in this process. We have collated those three sets of notes and they have been distributed to the Session. We have gone over these comments together and remain deeply committed to doing God’s Will as we listen to one another in this process. Please continue to pray for your Session. Before we vote, we would like to better understand our financial situation for 2026.

10 AM Worship Information

What Does the Lord Require of You?

God’s people have continually asked, “What does God want of me? What does the Lord expect of me? How am I supposed to live as a believer and what happens when I don’t?” Micah’s answer to this age-old question in 6:8 is memorable. Do Justice. Love Kindness. Walk Humbly with God. While Micah addressed a particular people in a particular time, his message continues to speak to us today. This Fall we will spend 4 weeks reflecting on Micah’s most famous passage and the ways we can live God’s “requirements.”

November 2 Love Kindness Micah 6:8, Jeremiah 9:23-24, Colossians 3:12-14

A consistent message throughout scripture is that God’s people are to show love, mercy, kindness, and compassion to the most vulnerable. Hesed is the Hebrew word that encompasses all of these traits. In what ways does God demonstrate Hesed? How is the theme of Hesed woven through the New Testament? What might Hesed look like today?

Reflection Questions: Who are the vulnerable today we can show Hesed to? What one thing will you commit to to “love kindness” in this world?

November 9 The Kin-dom of God Luke 19:11-23 and 1st Corinthians 4:14-21 (Kailey Stephens Preaching)

Throughout our entire existence, humans have yearned to understand and describe a limitless God with our limited human language. The words that we use to describe our relationships with God and with each other have a strong impact on our theological framework. How does expanding our language for God enhance our understanding of that which we can never fully understand?

Reflection Questions: What new ideas and imagery about the reign of God come up for you when you think of it as a “kin-dom”? In what ways do you feel called to use the Gospel message to “do business” that promotes God’s kin-dom/kingdom on earth as it is in heaven?

November 16 Rebranding Love Romans 12:9-21 (Kailey Stephens Preaching)

Prior to this message from Paul in the book of Romans, occurrences of agape love in Scripture are almost exclusively offered by God and shown through Jesus Christ. In Paul’s letter to the Christians living in Rome, however, he challenges them to show others the unconditional grace and mercy that they experience through God’s agape love.

Reflection Questions: In what ways is God’s “brand” of agape love different from society’s current “brand” of love? Where in your life can you take your words and/or feelings of love and transform them into acts of love? Think of someone in your life that it feels hard to love. What is a first step you can personally take to begin opening your heart towards peace and love for that person?

November 23 Walk Humbly with God Micah 6:8, I Peter 5:5-7, Philippians 2:3-8

“To walk” was the Hebrew way to identify a person’s lifestyle. Micah urges us to live a life of humility in the presence of God. What does that mean? How did Jesus exemplify humility? Humility is often misunderstood as low self-esteem or unworthiness. In fact, it is quite different. While the first two “requirements” focused more on our relationships with others, this one is more about who we are in our relationship with God.

Reflection Questions: How would you define what humility is and what it isn’t? What one thing will you commit to to “walk humbly with God” in this world? Write down the three actions you committed to do in this series and put it in a place where you will see it everyday.

Jesus’ Parables of Grace, Kingdom, and Judgment

Fall Gather Worship Series

A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. The Bible says that in addition to the 50 or so parables recorded, Jesus used many other parables, and he would not speak to the people without using a parable. The parables revolved around one of three central themes: Grace, Kingdom, Judgment. This Fall we will explore several of Jesus’ parables and learn the deeper truths he shared through these stories.
