We want to help keep your November positive, fun, and grateful at Markesan Public Library with nostalgic displays, a wish tree, craft kits and a call for Senior Pen Pals!

We are open at our normal hours and for our normal services, but for those who would prefer contactless service, we are continuing to offer optional curbside pick up - just call us at (920) 398-3434 to schedule a pick up time.

November Events
In the past, Miss Nancy has hosted holiday craft classes to jump start the creative spirit. This year, we will be handing out craft kits instead! Some of the fun items include a “Merry Mail board”, felt pumpkins from recycled sweaters, a wooden Christmas tree, and a little elf tag. Each kit will include all the supplies you need to complete your project and all the directions. As in the past, supplies are very limited, so we are encouraging people to call ahead to reserve a craft kit at (920) 398-3434. A very small donation may be asked for to help cover cost of supplies.

Here is our tentative holiday craft kit schedule (may be subject to change):

  • November 9-13: Sweater Pumpkins (not pictured)
  • November 16-21: Plaid Christmas Tree
  • November 23-28: Merry Mail Board
  • Nov. 30 - Dec. 5: Christmas Gnomes
  • December 7-12: Winter Shadow Box

Watch our Facebook page to learn when each craft will become available or call the library at (920) 398-3434 to reserve a craft kit or
Turkey Time Extravaganza
Monday, Nov. 16 - Saturday, Nov. 21

From Monday, Nov. 16 - Saturday, Nov. 21, stop by the library for our Turkey Time Extravaganza! Visit our courtyard and enjoy a Storywalk of the book “Turkey Trouble” by Wendi Silvano. Here’s an excerpt from the inside cover: “Turkey was in trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble where it’s almost thanksgiving and you’re the main course. But turkey had an idea –what if he didn’t look like a turkey?”
And wouldn’t you know it? Just like in the book, the library’s own flock of turkey’s all took off and hid. Families will be invited to go on a Turkey Hunt to help us find those sneaky gobblers. For turning in the answer key, kids will get their own Thanksgiving party pack to take home. The party pack will contain “Roll a Turkey,” complete with a pack of skittles; Turkey Pictionary; all the supplies for your own Turkey scavenger hunt; I spy Autumn, and more!
Then, try your hand at the “Turkey Toss” contest. Tell a librarian you want to try and then fling that turkey and make him fly. We will measure how far your turkey gets and put your first name on the scoreboard. The winner will be determined at library close on Saturday. Nov. 21stThe person who flings the turkey the farthest will win their very own frozen turkey from Ted’s Piggly Wiggly! This prize is brought you by a wonderful donation from the Grand River Turkey Club.
Additional activities may be added, check our Facebook page or website for updates.

If you have any questions about this event, please call the library at (920) 398-3434.
Senior Pen Pals
“Senior Pen Pals” is a joint program of the Markesan Public Library and the Mill Pond Public Library in Kingston to connect our nursing home bound residents to positive, kind people in the community. Would you consider writing to a senior once a week or more to help them feel cared for and valued? If so, then please call the Markesan Library at (920) 398-3434 or the Mill Pond Library at (920)394-3281 to sign up. We will gather names and then get back to you shortly with your Seniors mailing info.
Christmas Ornament Library Fundraiser

This year, we are making Christmas ornaments as a fund-raiser for the library! We have cute and fun Santa Cam, glittery unicorn, and "Let it Snow" ornaments! Only $7 each, and can have a name added to make a fun present! It's a great chance to order something special for yourself or a loved one, while helping support your local library! You can pick your ornament up at the library, or we can have it waiting for you as a curbside pickup, if you would prefer. These special ornaments will be available until Wednesday, Dec. 23. We can have a customized ornament ready 48 hours after you place your order. You can call the library at (920) 398-3434 to order one, or if you have any questions. You can also find more details and photos of each ornament option posted on our Facebook page.
Our Wall of Thanks

Share what you are thankful for, or your favorite encouraging quote on our Wall of Thanks at the library! Please take the time to write something you are grateful for or other positive messages on this display for the whole community to enjoy. This display will be up the whole month of November, so there will be many opportunities to participate. We will provide the markers, but we need you to provide the inspiration.

Closed for Thanksgiving Day

We will be closed on Thursday, November 26 for Thanksgiving. We hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!!

Our normal hours will resume on Friday, November 27.
Check out our first Decades Display!

Take a trip back to the rockin’ and rollin’ Fifties, with the first in our decades displays! We will have memorabilia, photos, along with themed books and movies arranged to help you remember the 1950s era. We will also have word puzzles and other games to challenge your 1950s knowledge. Did you know that the Montgomery Bus Boycott started by Rosa Parks took place in 1955?

Library Wish Tree
As the holidays approach, the library will again be setting up a “Wish Tree”. On our tree will be small stars with a gift suggestion for the library. Small items and large items will be listed. Some examples include: “$ for kids craft supplies”, “new movies,” “new books,” “$ towards meeting room tables,” etc. Please consider taking a star and donating something to the library this year for Christmas.

We will also have blank stars out for patrons to make wishes for the library. We’d like to know if there is something you really wish the library had for checkout or for in library use.

The Chair Affair returns in 2021! Chair donations sought
Back by popular demand! The Markesan Public Library Chair Affair is being planned for 2021. Please consider donating your structurally sound, wooden chairs to the library. Check your garage, basement, and attic for old unused chairs. Over the summer and fall, chairs will be collected by the library. Then, chairs will be given to local volunteers to paint and decorate for a silent auction-date TBD. The money raised will help the library fund its programs and weather the COVID-19 setbacks. We know its early, but we need your chairs now.

If you have any questions, please call the library at (920) 398-3434.
In compliance with the state mandate, face masks are required inside the library for those able to wear them. Right now, we have a limited supply of disposal masks available. If you don't have your own, simply ask at the desk!

Curbside service is available for patrons who are not able to wear masks or prefer contactless service.
