Mysteries of East Haddam
NOVEMBER 19TH AT 7:00 PM
Presentation by Dr. Karl Stofko
As a member, you are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of EHHS to be held at 6:30 PM, prior to the presentation.
Join Dr. Karl Stofko for Mysteries of East Haddam, his annual presentation of weird and wonderful historical events from the town’s colorful past. Dr. Stofko, author and East Haddam Historical Society historian, will delight the audience with intriguing stories. Don't miss this popular event!
This year's mysteries include “Whatever Happened to the Oliver Ellsworth?” The steamship, illustrated above, first plied the Connecticut River in 1825, and continued for most of the 19th century. What happened to the ship? Did it sink? Where did it end its days? Then there is “The Mysterious Disappearance of Matilda Cone.” She disappeared from East Haddam. Was she ever found? Was she alive and living somewhere else? And finally, a “Close Call for Three Men at Hadlyme.” While Dick Phelps was transporting mail across the frozen Connecticut River in March 1895 in a horse-drawn wagon, disaster struck. Find out what happened on that fateful day.
We ask everyone to bring a non-perishable food item or personal care item to donate to the East Haddam Food Bank. Thank you for helping your neighbors.
