Besides being really fun, the event showcases different STEM opportunities that exist right here in northern Minnesota and allows students to engage in hands-on learning experiences that will reinvigorate their interest in pursuing a STEM related career field. NORTHERN ST. LOUIS COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH FORUM: Last month, we had the opportunity to participate in the Northern St. Louis County, Minnesota Local Advisory Council Community Mental Health Forum at the Mt. Iron Community Center. Members of the public, mental health professionals, and community leaders came together for a great discussion pertaining to the critical #mentalhealth needs of our rural communities. Alicia Dick of St. Louis County Schools/ISD# 2142/Project Aware and Jordan Metsa, Minnesota Discovery Center Development & Marketing Director, presented to the group about an innovative programmatic experience known as Youth Mental Health Day. Launching this past September at the Minnesota Discovery Center, the annual program served hundreds of 9th grade students from across the northland and aims to reshape the way our youth think and talk about mental health.

DISCOVER THIS MONTH'S HISTORY HIGHLIGHT
|
|
HISTORY HIGHLIGHT: There's no question about it, winter is on its way! This month's history highlight showcases a log cabin neatly nestled in the north woods of beautiful Chisholm. On the early Iron Range, logging was the main industry and logging camps and cabins dotted the Iron Range. In fact, Virginia, Minnesota was once the home of the largest white pine mill in the world! The photograph above was taken in January of 1900 and is a part of a large collection of historic photos archived at the Iron Range Research Center and online on the Minnesota Digital Library website.

MinneMama Adventures Takes Autumn Trip to the Iron Range
Last month, we welcomed Nicki and Nate Brunner and their kids to the Minnesota Discovery Center and Redhead Mountain Bike Park for a day of adventures exploring Iron Range history.
Nicki and Nate Brunner are a married duo of Minnesotan adventure-seekers, dream-chasers, and child-wranglers. As parents of three cool and energetic kids, their goal with MinneMama Adventures is to discover and share the joys and challenges of daily outings, spontaneous getaways, and well-planned vacations as a family in a humorous, honest and authentic way.
MinneMama Adventures launched in 2014 focusing mainly on local hot spots for kids and families to enjoy without stress by providing tips and tricks for individual places. Over the years, it has also evolved to include our travel adventures and outdoor expeditions in more unique and expansive locations. Since its inception, we’ve enjoyed building our social media following, writing until our fingers hurt, photographing the beauty around us.
