Dear Friends of CAPC:

Social media data collection and design features

that addict children and promote their continued use of potentially harmful sites have made parents' jobs even more difficult. We want our children to have all the social, educational and developmental advantages offered online by reputable sites. Equally important is the need to supervise our kids’ online exposure. It is important for parents and caregivers to be aware of their children’s vulnerability online and take practical steps to protect them. CAPC's Speak Up Be Safe (SUBS) program teaches 5th-8th grade students about social media safety. Many children are unaware of the risks they face; parents and caregivers must now be aware of these threats and provide proper communication and guidance. Log on to CAPC's

website to learn more about how to keep kids safe online. Ask your child's school to bring programs like Speak Up Be Safe (SUBS) to students in your community.

News

The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa has a very special announcement to make! We are proud to announce that Carol Carrillo, our Executive Director has been honored by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), California Chapter with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023. Carol was chosen from hundreds of qualified social workers for this award based on her years of dedication to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Carol was presented with her award at a recent convention of the NASW in Los Angeles.

Carol’s vision and tenacity have taken CAPC from a small organization with only a few outreach efforts in the 1990’s to a large, fiscally sustainable force for the protection and wellbeing of children in a county of over one and a half million people. It has truly been a lifelong effort. Carol has a clear and focused understanding of child abuse, its causes, and its enduring effects. Most importantly for the families we serve, she has researched and pursued the most effective strategies for prevention, choosing programs that will lead to generational change and provide the practical tactics families need to see them through their challenges. Carol has carefully chosen programs and services for their evidence-based structures providing the highest quality services to families in every corner of Contra Costa County. Under her leadership, CAPC has led the efforts to prevent abuse and neglect in Contra Costa County for well over two decades.

With Carol at the helm, CAPC has offered not only high standards for intervention but intervention with a heart. All our services from Mandated Reporter Training to our Speak Up Be Safe programs in schools throughout the county come with compassion and a broadminded attitude. Each family receiving CAPC services is regarded with respect and sensitivity by dedicated CAPC staff. Her guidance is evident in every part of CAPC.

We know you will want to join us in wishing Carol congratulations on her award and her achievements. Thank you Carol, for your hard work, enthusiasm, leadership and steadfast commitment

CAPC's Youth Partner Delilah Borg participated in an art show at Todos Santos Park in Concord in early October. Delilah is so talented. We are proud of her work as a Youth Partner and an inspiring artist.

We wanted to take a moment to let you know how thankful we are to have supporters and donors like you. We wish you and your family nothing but the best this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season.
